Interesting

Thanks for the story.

I'm wondering how Lisa can write doubtful, uncertain people. It's not really in her lived experience, and I'm assuming that her shard steers her away from empathy.

With different people in the various roles, that was a good rerun of the Security! plan.

She'd never met the eldritch creature who called himself Michael Allen, ...
- Well, that depends on whether you count the meeting in his study inside her mind, while they were responding to the Fallen.

... to Rachel. "Thanks for letting me help."
- Ummm...
- In "Security!", we were told that Rachel doesn't understand words of thanks, because there is no equivalent among dogs. Here, she has surprisingly produced the standard human response.

Instinctively, she knew that showing off with her powers was not a great thing to do right now.
- Ummm...
- Based on shards-replace-your-instincts-with-conflict-magnetism, I'm not sure how that's within the plausible range. Either Lisa's shard wants a bigger explosion later, it's ridiculously happy that it's being fed, or Lisa unaccountably has intincts separate from it.

I would not look forward to telling Director Piggot (or the Child Guard) either.

I like the discussion of automatic and deliberate decisions. I assume that it's adjacent to Daniel Kahneman's book about fast and slow decisions. I like how it integrates with shards; that it's not that the powered person couldn't make a slow decision, but they weren't going to anyway.

But the damage had been done.
- The exact mechanism of the damage is unclear to me.
- I'm assuming that the outcome is that the war starts early, even though Jack Slash and Glory Girl are unavailable to start it.
- Dear author, if that's not the intended inference, then you may be miscommunicating.

what would happen to these would-be Big Names
- I'm wondering what happens to the shards that have been liberated by killing their previous holders.

It's the Bonesaw thing.
- And there isn't a Mike in a separate body, to make the first move without involving Amy.
- As a tactical matter, I'm wondering if Riley should be given a somewhat expendable non-cape as her first board-game playmate.

...hero... It felt good.
- That's fine, as far as it goes.
- If she optimises for it, that makes her potentially exploitable, in the same way-ish as Eidolon.
- I may be a raging cynic and pessimist.

This had been a blast to read. Thank you for the great story.

At about ten thousand feet, she shifted her grip to the back of his neck and squeezed.
- Alexandria does not want to get Panacea used to killing people.
- I agree with her; that set of outcomes could be very bad.

... the harder it became for her not to compare the place, unfavourably, with Arcadia.
- Hmmm... I think that she and Vicky started comparing when they first saw the outside.
