I didn't mind the original ending, but it is admittedly nice to get closure on the Jacobs (especially knowing they aren't going to imitate the original) and Kevin Norton, who got an explanation and closure to go along with his new lease on life.

You had a way of terminating the threat. Good. Most don't. Rather they focus on the conflict.
Canon worm acts like an AI project that lost an essential part of the reason for existing. It should have had redundant backups, but didn't. Not that cauldron could perceive in a few years about timeless eternal entities.
