You could do the whole story again from Fili's POV...
I loved this by the way. It was depressing in a good way to experience with Fili the pain and terror we could only see vaguely through sources outside of Fili's mind in the Ghost of Erebor.

Wow. Okay. *breathes in deeply* *tries to get a hold of myself* no why would you do that to Fili he's my little precious *insert Gollum smile here* I need to rescue him and smush him in blankets and feed him until he can't anything more and braid his hair so it's just perfect and wow I cannot do this anymore so Fili is never ever hurt again ach ach ach *takes deep breath* *continues ranting incoherently*
It was... *stabs self in heart* *hands heart over* You now have full control over my emotions.

Very interesting style experiment! Certainly feels feverish in the way his thoughts jump from one topic to another and reality blends with dream, past with present. I especially enjoyed the symbolism of heat and cold, they capture the extremes of Fíli's emotions very nicely.
The sensual impressions are particularly fascinating to me. With his vision and hearing so unreliable, it is great to see Fíli latch onto the smallest details in an attempt to ground himself, to establish a new reality - the green marble that has to be Erebor, Thorin's voice that cannot possibly belong to an orc etc. But what I liked most was the use of other senses, that are usually underrepresented in fiction, but that I feel are particularly important in this sort of state. You had me at "he can smell the woodsmoke"!
I was actually hoping for a bit more detail at the end. Fíli's realisation that he cannot speak feels a bit rushed to me. Then again, I guess that is all explored in more detail in GoE.
Since it took me so long to actually review, I must also pass along what an earlier reviewer forgot to mention in her review. Here is a post scriptum from Marigold Faucet that I believe she is very keen to pass on to Fíli along with a warm blanket and lots of hugs: "It will heal. EVENTUALLY BOTH WOUNDS WILL HEAL" (Emphasis not mine, as you know I'm not usually one for over-emphatic capitalisation!).

Poor Fili! This is very well done- it's a different writing style for you but I like it, especially for the context of this little ficlet.
It's such a sobering perspective. Would you believe I actually got sick to my stomach from reading it?- just because I can FEEL our Fili's pain and anguish so deeply! *feels feels feels feels*

Poor Fíli... I don't think I blinked once while reading this piece; you did an AMAZING job on it. I adore the experimental style, which you nailed, and it led to a wonderful, wonderful voice and tone. The symbolism and juxtaposition between fire and ice was used to perfection, too. Brilliant work!
