Hopefully Harry's capture has warped his mind since it feels kind of foolish to see Daewen sharing her camp as pity since he clearly saved her and it has been revealed her purpose is to watch him till he shortly died.
I have to say I am disappointed your going the route that wands are absolutely necessary for magic its merely a tool to focus it such they perform greater feats like say a screw driver. Voldemort as a child showed the ability to make things happen by sheer intent and thats without any understanding of magic so its not too difficult to believe there are those with the ability to perform simple spells with abit more effort than if they held a wand. Not to say they would be uber-wizards capable of no-selling wanded yets and in fact nearly the exactly opposite in the fact they would metaphorically be "bringing a knife to a gun fight."
Now don't go the cliche of rune arrays or advanced wandlessly magic. It would be simple be interesting to see Harry play around with old methods of magic that he would essentially be recreating and in no way compete with the far more modern and refined wand method. Obviously staffs he could find should not work perfectly since I figure wands have had numerous refinements much like modern firearms barely resembling their predecessors.
