Really don't like stories that impose an artificial limit on Naruto's training with shadow clones. Sure, I can see his trainer limiting it, but no way in hell he wouldn't add hundreds more afterwards or sneakily.
He's already had hundreds out, way back, so make use of them for once. And what's with him not training for hours after every session? He has the drive and constitution for it. Not to mention the chakra.

Aw come on. You wanted to change it up? Do thinga differently? Then why's Saauke late again? Him being late to his match and being disqualified is overdone in the fandom by now!
For instance, you could've made Sasuke actually come EARLY in the exams. That never happens. The Naruto vs Neji fight would be followed directly by Gaara vs Sasuke; the invasion would begin without Shikamaru fighting at all!

naruto was smart in those battle, better to give him promotion.
about shukaku gaara, ask why do you plan. Hope not have sasuke defeat him. If gaara is defeated by a genin, it only can be naruto (with kyuubi power, since he has no summon this time). Otherwise use an elite jonin or jiraiya, but don't want have sasuke being the one save konoha from shukaku.
for next hope you willgive naruto new skills like his fuinjutsu clan art. And extra offensive long range affinity like water or fire.
and new summon (the secret badass summon of uzumaki clan, or foxes).

Very Nice Chapter
As For the stretch as you call it with Gaara Surviving Naruto's explosion I consider it easily believable and even accurate really, Remember in canon Naruto had to bombard Gaara with over a 1000 clones to make Gaara feel the pain

If Naruto cant put him down sometime soon that kind ruins the effect he had on gaara later on.
