That was a great story. It held my interest throughout and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. The only thing that would have made it better is is them getting rescued at the end.

New to the GI fandom, just now starting to read the fiction. This is a beautifully written story. You have each character's 'voice', they were perfect. I admit I got a little misty at the end when the castaways talked to the Professor. I hated to see the story end. Thank you so much for sharing.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed my take on the Professor's backgrouond - he's a hard nut to crack, based on what little info the series gave us.

I did try to include everyone, and give each of the castaways a pivitol role in the story (even Teddy [g]). The cast's ensemble was one of the best on television, and I wanted to try to recreate that.

The Professor was always my favourite, as well.

Thanks again for your kind review.

Take care,

Pepper

Wow. I just had to speak up, after reading your story and glancing at your reviews. What a delight it was to find an actual story among this collection of mostly flimsy, poorly written fluff submitted by pre-teen 'shippers' (or those who never grew out of that stage).
Thank you for putting some thought into the Professor's background and the time period. The show's writers touched on the war in their comic fashion, but it was interesting to read your more serious take on the matter.
You captured our characters beautifully, INCLUDING the affection that was there between the girls and the Professor. Thank you for including each of the castaways in the action, and giving them each a meaningful part. The group sitting with their wounded companion on the beach all night, and the Professor losing his customary cool and crying... gah! And then ending it all with a coconut pie-pratfall! Nicely done.
The Professor was always my favourite. You did him (and Russell Johnson) proud.

Dear Guest Two,

Thank you very much for your kind review to my story. The Professor's always been one of my favourite characters, and I agree with you that despite his necessity for the castaway's survival too few episodes focused on him.

I did a lot of research to try to get my version of the Professor's backstory at least on target, and make him a three-dimensional character. So, I'm really happy you enjoyed that.

I'm not really a shipper, more of a gen writer, but it was my own fault for not at first labelling that the story contained no pairings. After that review, I updated the summary to not disappoint anyone else.

Thanks again for your lovely review.

Take care,

Pepper

I'm not the same guest reviewer that left the bashing review, but a different one.

This was a GREAT story. Its nice to see a story that focuses on just the Professor for a change - something that happened rarely on the series. I found your story intelligent, and insightful, and if anything was off on your science, I certainly didn't catch it. Anything sci-fi/time-travel/parallel worlds is all relative to the author anyway. The greats... HG Wells, Roddenberry, etc. all had their own ideas, and all agreed that there was no right and no wrong... what was important is the world created and the story told.

And on the subject of shipping, who cares? It's really GREAT to see a story that doesn't deal with that. There have been way too many of them lately, (mostly badly written) and the whole subject causes fights, and hard feelings, because of the vast and varied reader/watcher perspective, and most of all, this story didn't need it. Your story didn't even INDICATE there would be any shipping, so if your reviewer was looking for that, they should have realized by your story markers that there wouldn't be any, and ignored the story totally.

My only regret about this story is I wish there was a way to download it and load it on my Kindle to read again!

Thanks again for the wonderful story. I hope to read more from you soon.

To Guest Reviewer,

I'm sorry my story wasn't to your liking. There are many other great writers within this fandom that I'm sure you'll find something you'll enjoy much more.

What a disappointment! With all the good reviews I thought this would be something to read at lunch hour but what should I expect its the same 4 people reviewing and stroking the authors overinflated ego. Your science sucks even if its only for Gilligans Island.

Where was the ship? One minute its Ginger, the next its Mary-Ann. Make up you're mind.

Definitely won't be reading anything by you again!

Ahh... I could almost taste that pie, but as in so many real episodes of this beloved sitcom - of course it went flying! The heartfelt laughter that ensued was a great signal that everything was okay. Good old Gilligan had done it again. What a perfect ending!

Thank you so much for this enjoyable and brilliant tale.

The day is always darkest before the dawn. Such a difficult night to get through for the Professor, but the glorious sunrise heralded a new day and hopes for a better future.

I thought it was simply outstanding that the Professor had the comfort of Teddy. That made me smile. Mr. Howell doesn't lend him out to just anyone, and the idea of the Professor clinging onto that bear was both heartbreaking and sweet at the same time.

Mr. Howell is so often such a fountain of humor and wit that it is sometimes forgotten that his character was meant to be a brilliant man in his own right. I very much enjoyed seeing this side him highlighted in his determined conversation with the forward-thinking man of science.

With great intelligence comes greater potential for internal trauma - that is... if one has a sensitive conscience as the Professor does. The flashback to the events of his childhood was so interesting. What a heavy burden his heart carried all those years. No wonder he wanted to be alone after all that occurred. I loved Gilligan's understanding of the "lone wolf" mode. Great reference. Leave it to this wonderful island family not to abandon one of their own in a time of trauma.

The words at the end of this chapter went right through me. I felt the weight of the Professor's sadness, and the overwhelming emotions he could no longer hold in. So well done.

The author has a unique talent for taking frothy, light, comic pieces and infusing them with a backstory that lends credibility to otherwise stereotypical characters. Most of us never knew Professor Roy Hinkley's "real" name; he was The Professor. In this piece he has a name, a history and a depth that rises beyond the fanfic genre. This is a thoughtful and utterly enjoyable piece.

I really enjoyed this story. It was exciting and moving... and I loved the end when the Professor finally came around. I was even able to picture in my head, the Professor laughing with a lap full of pie. Wonderful job.

Nice chapter. I loved the talking to that Mr. Howell gave the Professor.

This is darker and more serious than the typical GI fic, but I'm curious to see where this is headed.
Happy Writing!
