Nice. First we get the message to the nation from Cobra, who quells any and all remaining doubt, exposing Crocodile and celebrating their heroes. We also see Luffy acknowledge that this fight took a lot out of him, given how hard he had to push is devil fruit. I'm beginning to see what you mean by him only having good control, especially when comparing him to other Logia users in series. Luffy needs to be completely isolated so he can practice with that fruit of his.
Moving on, Robin now becomes a member of the harem and she learns that Pluton is located in Kaido's territory. Not going there...yet, but definitely off limits.
Cobar gets to eat the Sand Sand devil fruits and his army is getting trained in six powers and Haki. Alabaster is about to get a serious overhaul...provided the world nobles and celestial dragons' don't get itchy trigger fingers...or Imu doesn't.
Next we have Vivi, of her own free will, joining the Straw Hats. Welcome to the see of adventures kid! A nice change of pace.
Moving on, we see that the effect of killing Crocodile has caused vice admirals to go after the Straw Hats, a hard fight that ended with victory and two vice admirals dead, but Sanji loses and eye, and Zero gets a nice new scar to now with the one Mihawk gave him. The Straw Hats may be stronger, but they are not top tier just yet. It will take more time and effort.
Chopper you are going to be working overtime.
Finally, the killing of smoker was not expected. However, given he mainly to beaten like a bad joke in canon, and in this story even worse it makes sense that the navy would want to cover up their failure or in action. Of course, that is if Big News Morgan, doesn't print the full truth, simply because he finds I more entertaining then their lie. Now Hina and Tashigi are on the run, the latter now having Smoker's devil fruit. Honestly, I think she could do a lot with this if she practices and puts more creative juices into it then Smoker did.
I just realized, with Logue Town taken over...was that by Bartolomeo? Considering that this when he became the biggest Luffy fanboy, it makes sense.
Next up, we have the arc you've said you're not looking forward too. Skypiea.
For this arc, one thing would be if during the Bellamy simply tanks Bellamy's Spring Hopper attack, or catches it mid air before punching him out, or when he gets close winds up using conquerors haki to knock him out without touch him. which would be more humiliating? and which would make Doflamingo angrier?
As for the time in the sky, I have to agree with another reviewer. Vivi needs a better weapon. I would suggest an iron cloud she can manipulate and shape, and use an impact and axe dial hidden in a pair of fans or something like that.
For Usopp, I hope he still gets that impact dial, his strength has gone up considerably he should be able to withstand it more. I would also recommend him getting a ball dial. He could create cloud platforms to escape, or hide stuff in. I wonder, could those actually be used as a cushion in a impact dial glove, diffusing some of the backlash?

1. yes, always love a chapter update. though I had to reread the entire story real quick cause I forgot what happens.
2. I've seen a lot of expanded crew fics where vivi joins the straw hats but this story's reasoning for her joining is the most logical and sound so far.
3. damn, smoker really got smoked huh? While he was kinda useless in this story and as you mentioned wasn't really of any note even in cannon that death felt kinda...sad. like he didn't deserve that. but at tashigi got the smoke fruit afterwards. HmMm, I wOnDeR wHaT sHe'Ll Do NoW?

Well...that didn't go well for Smoker, honestly this is the first fanfic I've ever read where he does get offed (though to be fair I don't read an egregious number of One Piece fics), also that by proxy makes it the first one I've read where Tashigi gets his Devil Fruit. I'm hoping that this is one of the fics where she gets together with the Straw Hats and Zoro by proxy...cause I just find the idea of them getting together 1) kinda funny and 2) plenty of other fics like to poke fun at the possibility due to her being a damn near reincarnation in terms of looks and attitude to his dead friend Kuina...which that in itself could have been a fun little idea except she's two years OLDER than Zoro is, she is 21 at the time of her debut while Zoro is 19. Also I think if anyone can help her think out the box it's the Straw Hat crew when it comes to using her new Devil Fruit powers and training with Zoro would help her get better as a swordswoman even if she only sticks to One Sword Style...which while Zoro ain't the BEST at by his own admission...his One Sword Style attacks are usually strong as hell and finishing moves all their own.

I’ve not read this for a while, I’m not on fanfiction much lately. I read from where I left off at the end of the Drum arc and holy shit I was blown away by what I read upto the end of this chapter. The Alabasta arc you wrote is a fucking masterpiece, from the fights and dialogue to the accuracy of lore and consequence. Knowing what we do now in regards to the manga/anime, Vivi leaving with the strawhats is absolutely the right decision, there are no doubts in my mind about this.
I thought Vivi was going to eat the Suna Suna no mi, but when she offered it to her father and added the reasons as to why he should be the one to eat it, again it made perfect sense. It’s simply great educated writing.
The fight with the marines and vice admirals after leaving the island were as awesome as the initial fights between the crew and their respective opponents. 2 vice admirals left dead in their wake and with real injuries suffered, like Sanji losing an eye. I do hope Bon-chan is alive still though lol. The crew are much stronger than canon though so I wonder if he’d ever have a role to play in the future as I can’t see the timeskip happening anything like it did in canon, but that is a long way off yet and no doubt there will be a lot of changes beforehand.
Lastly, I am happy with the route you took with smoker. I was never a fan of him being installed as a rival for Luffy. The gap between them, especially post timeskip was growing exponentially, by the arc. So the decision to off him and give his power to Tashigi is something I am a supporter of and I can’t see her remaining as a marine. She has youth, talent and ambition on her side too. Her path to joining the Strawhats is crystal clear now. She knows they are the true freedom fighters and have a much cleaner sense of justice than the corrupt militant wing of the world government ever will.
All round ballsy writing and fantastic storytelling on your part sir. I can’t wait to read what twists and turns you come up with next.
