Your McGonagall is mean. But how nice was she really, allowing muggle born students to believe they had a chance to succeed in a world run by bigots?
Of course, as adults reading children's books, we see things differently. JKR writes traditional children's lit, that isn't expected to make perfect sense. Characters act in a way to move the plot along, and things are played for laughs, rather than for truth to character. Like when Ron mentions they have a cousin who is an accountant, but they don't talk about him much. That's played for a laugh, even the the Weasley family are not bigots.

was this ever posted under a different title? or was it rewritten? i swear I have read this exact story under a different title and author. the only difference i can recognize after the first 3 chapters is the name of dean's father and how during learning of his father's background, he decided to give his parents money if they wanted to help buy a house. i am going to search for the story i am thinking of and if it is a different story/author i will have to consider reporting plagarisim.

Had to laugh about that bit about money being a monopoly, maybe illegal? Because I recently listened to a podcast describing the history of banks in the USA and how at the beginning was a free for all and you had to consult a guidebook ( frequently updated ) on what paper money was accepted where, at what discount, and which banks had gone under so have fun papering wherever with that money.
