A real treat. A new chapter of by far the BEST story EVER published on any site ANYWHERE.

The most terrifying thing I find about this story is how believable (on the Collins end) it is.

Oh, wow. You’re the first writer I’ve seen to take real empathy on Mr. Collins.

Jane… I…

This is the true tragedy of the story.

I was out and instead of reading i was using the audio feature when your comment about finishing this by the time you were a grandma... and i laughed SO loudly that I got curious looks for it... which made me laugh more...

Anyway... this chapter was posted 2 months ago... I’m hoping the combo of RL and Muse lets you update at least 3 chapters this year? I mean it in the best way, sorry, my sense of humor is sometimes a bit off...

About Jane and the barrenness issue... my two cents on this ...
There is something intriguing in the letter Forelli sent Gardiner, about Collins Sr., more specifically about his 3 marriages. The first was of some duration and without children, then she died, the second wife was William’s mother, and it was a while until the pregnancy happened, then she left, THAT puts some doubt about the legitimacy of his being married to Jane.

What if the woman were to be found I wonder? AND given the number of years Jane has been married to the guy... Wouldn’t it make sense that a guy that has been married 3 times and most likely has had a a little (or a lot) of action on the side, have AT LEAST one other child? It seems unlikely in a time where contraceptives were not a thing...

It seems more likely that wife number 2 had someone else be her baby daddy (and maybe left with him?) Maybe that is why Collins Sr. is the way he is with William... Even the biggest monster would be somewhat more protective with its young... With the way he is, it would appear as well that he didn’t say anything about William out of his twisted sense of pride... or that said pride blinds him to accept HE is the barren one after all...

That could mean there’s a chance Jane may or may not have “a bun in the oven” right there...

this is an awesome story! I love the depth and complexity, of characters, plot and relationship. I'm incredibly impressed by your choice to only show a bit of explanation in each reunion - that's such a smart way to handle it! You're right that it can be super dull when there's chapter after chapter of the same story being repeated, just to different people. This promises to be far better, keeping me interested throughout all the reactions!

Bless Jane for her gentle nature ! And her wit.
I do hope Elizabeth will stop being such a stubborn woman, but she's gone through so much that the appeal of being free and independant must be considered.
As usual, a great chapter !

Who cares if Collins imprisonment might cause shame to the Bennet ladies? They would fall under the care of Mr Darcy of Pemberley! Uh...Do you want to say shameful things about them? Not me!

Truthfully, I want to see the bast**d, known as Collins, die! Jane's baby deserves to be Bingley's baby. Oh, but she is barren? I bet not! Won't that make her happy? But that would also mean...if she IS able to have children.. then could it be, that Mr Collins CAN'T have children? Including the heir of Mr Collins? Hmmmm...

Jane is dealing exceptionally well with her trauma, or perhaps she's just really good at bottling it up.
Such convoluted plans rarely work out perfectly but it might work well enough.

It seems that acting against Collins senior is more difficult than expected. I hope the investigator will find sufficient evidence that the Bennet sisters will no longer have to suffer under his authority.
I'm so looking forward to reading more.

I believe Elizabeth could, for the most part, walk away from her double life. However, there will always be a few people who would recognize her; especially if they had been in close contact with her in the past. She had her admirers. The real question is would they allow her to be 'just' Elizabeth Darcy?

Back in those days I don't think Mr. Collins would be accountable for what he's done to Jane, a wife was a possession. And I think, for that reason, he wouldn't be held accountable for any beatings to the Bennet sisters or to his son. To be accountable he needs to be caught trying to kill someone outside of the family; maybe trap him during the attempt.

Nice bit of interaction between cousins. And Bingley is finally being faced with the potential, and probable, repercussions of his actions. Wise, well spoken words on Jane’s part. The question is, will Elizabeth embrace them.
