The reason people are assuming Kate is genderfluid and/or transgender is because she is referred to as "Leo" and with he him pronouns in a third person narration. If the characters in the story are supposed to view her as male, but the audience is supposed to know she's female then she should be referred to as such in narration. By continuously referring to Kate as male in instances where only the audience could see, you send the message that we're supposed to view her as male.
