This made me cry so hard, bringing back old pain, but I completely understand why you did it. If you are anything like me, it probably helped to a small degree. Natsu on here reminded me of on of my cousins who had a cat he loved with all his heart. Her name was Milky Way. She lived to 21 years old, and it was so hard for him to let her go. A friend of mine just lost his German Shepherd at 14 years old, and that dog was a magnificent one of a kind. My friend had been with that dog literally from Johann's first breath to his last, and they hadn't spent more than a handful of days apart in that entire time. I won't go into my own losses. Do NOT feel bad about making this story.
On the writing side of this, it was amazingly in character especially with it being such a personal piece. If Natsu really lost Happy, he would be an absolute mess. The details about Happy's condition that Natsu kept missing made it really hit home.

I'm letting you know now that im no way was this a bad choice. You did the right thing for her. There are no words for something like this a simple "I'm sorry for your loss," usually isn't anything that helps. But know as a reader and a person who has lost so many animals (family) that this doesn't get better, and is the worst part of owning a companion.
I hope that as time goes on your heart will heal and you can see that although I don't know you or your treasured friend she forgives you. Please take the time to grief and not rush anything, take sometime to remember and relive your memories that you had with her.
I pray for you and her. I hope you have a healthy recovery.

Oh I am so so sorry. I felt your pain in this story, I really did. You didn't fail her. You gave her 14 1/2 years of love. I had to put my cat down 3 months ago. She was only 5. It still hurts.

I'm sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to lose a pet that you had for years. We had to put down our dog about a year ago, she was 13-15 I think. This chapter was well written, the emotions spot on. I hope it helped you with your grieving process. I love you!

This was very hard to read and my heart went out for the Dragneel family and yourself. I wish there was way we could beat cancer for all species.
I think you did great and thank you for being brave for sharing your story with us in the form of Natsu and Lucy. Money is tight but losing your family member is worse and although people call them pets, they are your family member. Your child, little brother/sister, partner. The best thing you can do is to remember them when they pass on and never forget the good times you spent with them even in your moments of grief.
The pain never goes away and empty words of condolences don't offer much but moving forward towards a new day is all your family would want for you and for the hurt to lessen over time
R.I.P. to Socks and we love her too now. The memory of her is now with us so she can never be forgotten. Cherish the memories and live on strong for her sake.

I didn't read the story because my gentle soul cannot handle angst, but I read the author's note, and I just wanted to say that Socks will most definitely forgive you. I'm sorry that you and your cat had to go through that, but just know that we are here for you. If I were in your shoes, I would've done the same thing. Death is one of the hardest things to deal with, but sometimes it's better than suffering. I cannot speak for Socks, but I don't think that she believes that you failed her. This may sound really cheesy and sappy, but I know that she will always be with you.

Sorry to hear about your cat. Its always sad when a pet dies. I went through the same thing with my dog a couple of years ago. She got a tumour in her leg, but because she was so old, almost 15, we decided not to do a surgurey that may not have got it all. Its a tough time but it gets better

Wow this was a lot of fun and ended on a sweet note. I really enjoyed all the games the gang played and it gives me an idea for next years Halloween party lol.
