The progression of characters and windows into backstories is much like a day in the life of a detective. The climatic build to the ultimate bad guy, by knocking off a few of the lesser ones. Gives Sookies character the skills she'll need to use her powers. E/S i cant wait them to tell each other 'I love you', its there on the tip of their tongue...hopefully its before they meet Apples(haha) I could see him using his cruelty to destroy S/E w/doubt. With all the torture scenes w/ I loves you's under distress can be seen as desperation/manipulation especially w/what the witch has done to Pam who knows what her mother has turned into. With the way its heading I can only imagine a epic battle satisfying the end of Apples(haha). I could see after, King Bill has a party to celebrate/court hearing thinking all the bigbads are gone he can take Sookie not knowing what she can do because he conveniently missed the battle. Hmmm *wink*

This was an exciting chapter and worth the wait. I really liked your characterization of Amelia. And it's the first time I recall Octavia being bad! Sookie's mom is a piece of work. But Appius is so evil. I'm very worried for Pam and her psyche.
