I feel really bad for Reeves.

I enjoyed this chapter a great deal, especially the rude brother getting his butt handed to him by R'raak and how the temporary First Officer Reeves felt out of place and useless.

Perhaps he'll recommend using the First Officer position as a teaching position to polish commanders who are almost ready to step up to a captaincy.

Thanks for the update.

I thought R’raak already met her family?

Oh, great. The situation on Oasis V is worse than that on the planet John Gill was on. In his case, he was misguided, but he had good intentions. This was an overt act of aggression on that manic Grax's part.

ShangriLa is supposed to be a hidden paradise. That fit Oasis V to the tee before Grax arrived. Now it's anything but.

That tears it. With so many children involved, there's no way Starfleet can fix this like they did with the Origs. And trying to send in a diplomatic team is too dangerous because of the navigational hazard posed by the plasma eels and the interphase madness.

R'raak came up with a diplomatic answer to that question.

I guess that's one way to shut Dree up. Looks like the new couple is going to have some difficulty gaining the approval of Z'asia's family, though it seems the mother is okay with it.

At least Tivar and his family will be getting a happy resolution from the ordeal.

First off, I've been meaning to common this. Admiral Sloan from Personnel - I'm reminded of Agent Sloane from Section 31. Any connection here? As for Dylan Reeves, I get the feeling he's unknowingly a pawn in a larger game.

Oh great. Esada's in the same boat Terumi and the Ambassador were in. Only difference is Esada's problem seems to be with the crew primarily.

I think Reeves called it with Esada. She may be like that Commodore who took over the Enterprise and entered the Romulan Neutral Zone after Kirk, Spock, and the others suffered that aging disease. The Commodore had served on stations in the past, but never served on or commanded a ship. Esada may be a good administrator or station commander, but not a starship captain. I think she's more interested in fighting the Cardassians than actually commanding a starship. I think she lost someone on the Columbia or on the Proxima when the Cardassians attacked.

I don't know if Tivar and Iria will continue serving Starfleet, but I don't think they'll be going into space again.

Nice to see Sakuya keeping in touch with some of her siblings.

Reeves keep expecting some form of discipline, but Naruto called it. He led by good example, and the crew over the years followed his example and applied it to their own crews.

I wondered if the couple should have brought Niwara along to introduce her to Z'asia's family. After the initial meeting, I changed my mind. While that meeting is probably inevitable, they'll delay things as long as possible.

Reeves believes that as First Officer, one of his duties is to ensure discipline is enforced on the ship. But considering how everything is working on the Wolverine-A, he's not needed for that duty. So he has extra time on his hands and doesn't know what to do.

Ino hit the nail on the head during her talk with Reeves. He's too used to dealing with crews that are freshly assembled. They haven't gotten used to each other and ironed things out. The Think Tank has been together for so long that the issues he's expecting won't happen.

Sloan's once tried to break up the Think Tank. And there's one argument in his favor: the danger of having too many eggs in one basket. That's valid. But the Think Tank is following another belief: one should never break up a winning team. Kirk and his team proved that. So did Picard and his team on TNG.

Future ideas:
R'raak and Z'asia - I think her family might come around if they meet his family. They can obviously visit his Caitian relatives easily. As for his parents and extended family, I could see that happening while the Wolverine-A comes to Cait for an inspection of the new police cutter and the other prototype. And speaking those ships and the influx of credits to the shipyards because of them, I think the Ferengi would have approved of the twins siezing the opportunity before them.

Ambassador - About the only thing I can say about that is I think there's going to be tension between Mirai and Bianca over Vyorin. That's going to be a mess for Vyorin, Aurora, Kono, and Mei Terumi.

T'Kon Empire - There was a computer game released somewhat recently called Star Trek Resurgence. It dealt with the T'Kon Empire and their apparent reappearance. Captain Will Riker made some cameos, and it took place post Nemesis. I know it took place on a Centaur class ship, and the other Starfleet ships shown were the kinds seen in Star Trek Picard. If you don't have the game, maybe you can watch a video of it to get further insight into the T'Kon Empire and their technology.

wonder if naruto will be doing anything about Sloan and Esada

Well, that should tone down some of the snideness at least. But I think the biggest issue is a difference in philosophy.

Both the M'Fau and the Zephra Clans are more quiet elegance. They don't have the need to brag about themselves or prove themselves superior, because they know that they're just that damned good. To do more would be gauche and uncultured. Striving for excellence is one thing, domination another and the latter is seemingly only excusable to help de-escalate a situation. Case in point, Naruto vs. that Romulan Swordsman. He had to make an example to prevent things from going even more south.

Compare that to how R'raak has been treated thus far by her male relatives. They thought him lesser, when he's been their superior the entire time.

His GFs family seems to be nouveau rich, they're uncertain and insecure about their position, hence the grandiose and expensive house, the need for servants, and the attitude displayed towards R'raak.

She on the utter hand, finds his quiet confidence utterly sexy, combine that with an exotic packaging and a gentleman's personality. Well... She's hooked.

Somewhat unsatisfying, but also completely understandable. The damage is done and cannot be undone. Removing the troublemakers and families won't undo the damage and would cause even more chaos.

An uplift might've been an option, but would've been a further betrayal of the Prime Directive, plus there's the potential animosity by the locals.

So nothing but bad choices and leaving them all be an quarantining the system is probably the lesser evil, considering it prevents any further upheaval.

This is a very realistic portrayal of not being able to "win" every mission. Sometimes, it's nothing but bad choices. And you got to play the hand you've been dealt for good or for ill.

Wonder if Sloan was looking for a lever to use against Naruto, considering how he got savaged by him both with the families on starships thing or by sending him unsuited XOs.

But it just further proves that both Sloan and Esada are desk jockies, pencil pushers. Completely out of touch what actually serving on a starship means. The bonds that are created and how that all effects a ship's efficiency.

They see it as one size fits all, when that couldn't be further from the truth. Different ships require different mentalities.

Stick Captain Styles on a Heavy Cruiser and the man is surprisingly competent. Stick him on a fast or light cruiser and he's hopeless.

Nodaway on a by the book type of ship might lead to discipline complaints. But stick her on a Fast Cruiser, Fast Destroyer, Mercury etc and she's an Ace that makes her ship sing.

And Personnel doesn't seem to grasp that notion. Which is why they're having staffing issues. *shrugs*

Not fully certain how to fix those issues, beyond ensuring that they have at least one tour of duty (5y) for every 15y in their career. So they can keep current. (Think you had a similar issue in one of your Shinobi planet stories with the teaching Chuunins. They hadn't done any actual out of village missions for years, causing them to teach stuff that just doesn't work in RL compared to the Academy life.)

Think I hit all the major points.

Couldn't they have teleported the nutcase out of there since he was the only full beta on the planet and simply have his disappearance be a local mystery?

Sloan sends someone to try and steal naruto’s secrets, cause if solan’s ships are at naruto’s standard, then it levels the playing field, problem is, one of the main reasons for the high standard, is that they’ve been together for 30 years, through 2 wars. Military discipline was instilled early on, and simply maintained. None of the crews want to leave cause the ships are top of the line, with the best possible working environment, and they’ve worked together for decades. Why leave.

After last chapter i had a feeling they were going to avoid contact with the others on the planet and just get all the info they could from observing like they did. Though the title of the chapter did make me think i was wrong about that. Not sure if that was the plan or not but nice way to throw people off like that.

I was wondering when R’raak would habe to deal with Z’asia family again and how that headache would turn out and it went close to what i thought it wpuld have. I was thinking it R’raak would of also spared againt Z’asia father as well so that surprised me it didnt end up that far. I wonder how there relationship will go with Z’asia’s family from here now.

I can’t help but ponder as to why that energy eel followed and ended up causing the U.S.S. Repulse to blow up to begin with. I feel it was because the ships cree were a danger wanting to stop them but that seems dumb there. Other then maybe trying to capture and contain going wrong its very puzzling there.

Not sure if i should feel sorry for the current first officer or not at all. Kind of funny how lost everyone who is new always gets with how the Wolverine operates the way it does. I really wish I had a clue who could work out for the ship.

Thanks for the chapter update and i am looking forward to reading what comes next and how it goes for those involved. I wonder what kind of ideas you have in mind.

If me pointing out the energy eel part causes problems later on then all i can say is sorry for that. Its just a thought i been wondering about for a bit now. As to why it left the others and caused the ship to blow up.
