Why is Hiccup lying? Astrid looks incredibly vulnerable. She’s holding a weapon she doesn’t know how to use, which is a liability more often than not, she’s facing a man who is quite experienced with that weapon and could beat her in a fight quite easily, she’s not wearing any armor that I know of, and she’s in a supposedly dragon infested forest at night. I don’t think she could look more vulnerable if she tried.

I am greatly saddened to see this story end like this. I enjoyed it a lot and I'd call it one of the best knight AUs I've ever read(there's more than you might think)
The romance is adorable and disgustingly cute, I liked that Astrid is more than just a princess and damsel in distress, but can easily hold her own against all the squires, kicking their sorry butts.
Badass Astrid is best Astrid.
It also seemed like you wouldn't go the obvious route of Eret being some sort of scumbag who would end up trying to abduct Astrid and to then be stopped, but instead having him be a fairly decent guy and the actualy threat coming from outside. Less obvious that way.
Or maybe you were working towards having both be the threat, in which case it would still be better because at least the antagonist is smart enough to not get associated with the dirty work himself in case things went wrong.
Hiccup just finding Toothless in the woods is also a neat spin on it. You could have simply completely omitted him, but instead Hiccup ends up meeting up with Toothless and Astrid at night, which can't have been good for the poor guy's sleep.
Again, sad to see this story be discontinued, but I appreciate the update from your side. I have seen far too many stories just stop midway, never to be continued and the author never heard from again.
I also just discovered your other HTTYD stories, so maybe I'll just give those a read again.

That is quite the cliffhanger.
Wonder what Commander Haddock is having to manage with the city issues. The whole theft incident unresolved in a larger way from what it seems.
It was interesting to read about Hiccup's engineering abilities with regard to Toothless. How will that background be addressed without his work as an apprentice blacksmith? As a squire, he may have some access to a forge for basic repairs and such, but his station would be higher enough that he would not likely have nightly access if I understand things correctly.
Lots of moving parts, all very interesting.

Ahhhh, to bad thus story go abandoned in the most interesting part. I just hope that you continue with this story soon and don't let it get Lost. Even that I don't want to see Astrid be forced to marry Eret, look like a good plot.
