It is a gripping read.
I can see that this set up could easily start a novel-lenght story. But if that is too much (for whatever reason) maybe 1-2 more chapters could neatly bring E&D to a hopeful understanding, and a rescue in sight, or some such. Just to round it up a little? Rather than leave it abandoned? Would be lovely to see a conclusion, even if it is sort-of more like a one-shot semi open ending.
