What I really love about the reviews on here is that they are completely unpredictable ie UNHINGED. But in a good way. Whereas the reviews on AO3 (which is where I usually lurk) are just nice, respectful praise. ahhhh sorry, your ramble was amazing! I agree with everything - and how interesting to say that Snape and Roisin are each other's narrative foil because it's true but I hadn't thought about it like that! I think it's important that The Stirring shows how teenage girls often are: uncomfortable, embarrassed, boy-crazy, and worried about exams. I don't think that's depicted enough in fanfic OR ANYTHING. Also, I like how the main character is so muggleborn - Hermione never mentions gangsta rap (or, you know, boy bands she likes) and Roisin is clearly part of the two worlds. She has a poster of Johnny Depp (I think) on her wall!

I miss the updates but also Real Life is a thing.

PS I am now thinking about Hermione listening to Coolio and being really quite confused... I think she'd be an Abba fan. Or maybe B*witched? Whose ageing themselves now huh

mild to moderate spoilers in my review: i often find myself coming back this story, not just for the (and i'm sure i'm aging myself horribly) lemons. the writing of this story, is so palatable, each chapter encourages the reader to engage within the confines of narrative; not out of moralistic purity, but within the presented moral quandary. it also humanizes a lot of background characters. tonks was mostly known for being clumsy and for being a young auror. but in this story she engages fully as an order member. her crush on lupin is mostly subtext limited to a couple of exposition and foreshadowing in the original novels. the movies completely forget that mr. weasley isnt a bumbling guy who thinks muggles are just so cool, he's an active parent equal to his wife. he was equally as concerned for harry as mrs. weasley, she's just louder and more focus on her in the books. he's also aware of how serious the war is. enforcing code words and searching for mad eye when he was killed during the active part of the war. one of the things most engaging about this fic, is just how light it is compared to other stories. the plot, chapters, and narrative are dark. there is a serious concern about róisín, but there are sprinkles of comedy interlaced within each chapter. róisín calling snape a cunt when he's being a cunt, realizing he's making her walk the long way back to the castle, her dad being a math teacher, wizards listening to gansta rap, etc. anybody in her situation would be anxious, the difference is that you don't tag her internal or external dialogue. she has anxious thoughts, she asks anxious questions. she acts anxiously and its clear to the reader that this is not a characterization that she has had pre-story. externally, the dialogue is incredible, i remember being 15 and feeling so uncomfortable in my own skin i would blush and shrink at just about any mention of sex or crushes, i remember being 19 and that being all i could think about, and talking to my friends about my crushes and how deeply this was a secret we'd keep together. i like how snape is characterized, how his moral compass has changed, and how his ethics contrary at his own justification (especially in the chapters where he has to deal with the gred/feorge in grimmauld place, or after the golden trio find out he is bedding the sióg). i like how róisín serves as his own narrative foil (at least in my interpretation) they are both powerful, but she is emotional, unrestrained, and (for lack of a better term) unfocused (by which i mean she is mainly focused on her newts, not the war) while snape is practical, restrained, and focused. he learns the statis charm, he is a spy for order, he has to be focused on everything to ensure the order wins, and he cannot lead by his emotions.i am excited and i look forward to your return. i'm sorry if this review is too long, i've been reading since the beginning but only recently have had the nerve to review.

yes I was rereading it. shut up.
I just really love these last couple of chapters so much, not because of the smut (but also because of the smut) but their progress here is just… chef’s kiss every time I read their scenes together I try to put myself in Róisín’s shoes and yeah, being shirtless in front of your scary professor is kinda terrifying. even though they’ve had sex before. It still is! It’s not just partially naked anymore, it’s completely nude! :o but god I just love the slow burn. every little detail and advancements is so delicious. when she admitted to him before that she was embarrassed when he took her shirt off and then later on when she felt self conscious and covered her breasts and he tried to reassure her without saying anything by kissing her there. the other times he didn’t even kissed her anywhere. last time he dimmed the lights after she covered herself, this time he did it before anything even started. Sorry for being annoying this is probably my 50th comment on here lmao I need to delete the ffnet app and get a life. Anyway I miss this story and the chapter discussions in the comments after the updates, I hope everyone is doing well! S2 s2 xxx

I would think I would be calmer by now and I wouldn't check in every 2 days to see if there's an update, after all it's been 5 months... but I'm like an addict, I need more.

I don't lose hope, if another 5 months must pass, I'll still be here, because I know I'll enjoy the next chapter, no matter how much time passes.
