I just got to read the entire story through. Thanks for this! I liked following Nyota’s thought processes as she seeks to mesh and prioritize the trajectories of her career, her personal and familial responsibilities, her love life, etc. etc. I also liked your depiction of Kirk. You show his practical selfish side. What also comes through are the kinds of pressures he’s under as captain.

Perhaps we’ll get another installment of Spuhura in the future? Until then, thanks again for writing this!

Wow! This was the first of your works that I've read, so I got to meet your characters for the first time, and try to remember the plot of Star Trek Beyond. I agree: this works excellently as a standalone. You've convinced me that the Spock-Uhura canon of this universe does actually work. You developed such depth to Uhura's character that I rarely, if ever, see; she is strong, independent, and works hard for what she wants (or thinks she wants). Watching her mature in the realization that Spock is who she wants to be with was handled maturely and followed a logical train of thought. All the characters (original and canon) were portrayed with complexity, depth, and respect.

The details throughout were astonishing and clear. You led us through multiple plot threads and wove them together seamlessly. I couldn't put this down and was invested until the end. It was a pleasure to read this. Well done!

I started this story first (Spock and Uhura!).After reading the first three chapters, I decided to start with the first story and I'm glad I did. This has been a wonderfully epic story. I'm glad I got to know Waters and I enjoyed watching the growth and maturing of the crew into family. I loved the, at times heartbreaking, way you show Spock and Uhura's relationship. I hope the muse eventually strike and you finish four and five.

at last, the linguist's proposal! :DDD I have to say your spock and nyota are as subtle cute and dignified as the movies version is, and all their little emotional moments of cuteness make me want to see even more of them and kind of intrude in their privacy a bit! LOL I hope they can manage to have children if they want that too since, after all, his parents could; they'd make amazing parents as challenging having kids in their circumstances, as starfleet officers, can be. I find it cute and kind of fitting that their 'engagement ring' essentially is him giving her a necklace and her giving him a ring. Both with a clear sentimental value.
My favorite part also is the one in the observation deck. A very honest conversation that added a lot of details and depth to what happened before. His explanation in particular is touching and made me think about how it might as well be one of the reasons that made Spock have that moment of uncertainty in Beyond. Maybe he was insecure, they were both stressed and tired by space, and without realizing he did that very human thing of accidentally testing your partner to get evidence that you still mean something to them and they still want to be with you, but it backfired because instead of her asking him to stay, that she could never do because she isn't selfish, he hurt her and drove her away. Maybe sharing his conflict with her was just a way to ask her what he didn't have the guts to ask which is 'do you still love me? are you still committed to me?'. How could Uhura see it, though? what happened to them is very human and real, and I'm glad they found their way back to each other. It was a good journey. Thank you for this story!

I would love to see Spock mentoring Chekov like he does in the original series! And Chekov centric is always awesome anyway! I loved this story and I look forward to the next one!

Thanks for this wonderful story. It was great to see the development of Spock and Uhura's relationship from Yorktown until now.

What a wonderful final chapter; no heroics, no blazing guns or unrealistic resolutions but a credibly imperfect compromise in an imperfect world that relates to the real world and that fits perfectly with the thought-provoking story you created.

The final scene between Uhura and Kirk was especially poignant, particularly:

' "So where do you draw the line, exactly? Is it Yorktown? Or will that become forfeit, too, in the name of peace?"

... "I don't know. I have my own reservations about what I was asked to do today, but I'd like to think that I'll know when it's right to draw that line. Today wasn't that day."

... Sometimes it was easy to slip into the narrative people created for him. Captain Kirk could disregard any order, break any rule, and come out unscathed. But then she remembered to really look at him, and what she saw was her friend, who couldn't always ignore the consequences, even when he wanted to.'

Thank you for all your hard work to give us such a mature, considered story and such believable characters with all their strengths and flaws. There has been a dearth of quality Spuhura writing recently, thank you for filling the void.

Thank you for not giving up on this story. I’ve enjoyed it tremendously so far. You’ve developed the characters so well. Whilst I feel for them both, Nyota needed the separation and the space it allowed her to grow and reflect. It appears that their relationship will be stronger for it. Now that they have both communicated with each other on how they feel.

I’ve really appreciated and enjoyed this Uhura focus fic. Will be said when it ends. But all good things have to.
