Excellent story.
If you like songs about the power of music, I highly recommend "Rock & Roll Dreams Come Through" by Meat Loaf. It's literally a hymn to the power of music-and the video (directed by Michael Bay and starring a teenage Angelina Jolie as an runaway) is spectacular.

It would be interesting if this was continued, and Harry's connection to music made him a full-on D&D-style Bard, and it turned out that Bardic spellsinging, incredibly rare, is the power that the Dark Lord Knows Not. It could even be a power that Lily Potter had too, but never knew it until not long before her death, because Petunia (jealous even when they were kids together because Lily was so much prettier) claimed she croaked like a toad, and made her too self-conscious about her singing. But if Lily noticed after she began singing lullabies to Harry, that wandless spellcasting came so much more easily... Harry's blood protection could have been powered by Bardic magic as well as a mother's sacrifice for her child.

This is cool. I usually don't read these small K fics, because I'm looking for a longer story (A bit of a problem for me since I'm looking for that perfect fic that I like everything about, and then will follow perpetually. Only problem is no one wants to write perpetually. Ha!), and most K's aren't gritty/real enough for me. That said, I decided to read this after Scaled Mother, and I was not disappointed.
Usually I find Harry singing to be cringe-worthy, especially since its usually forced in because the author desires is so bad, even when it's out of character. That said, I seriously enjoy music, and am musical to some extent myself. I've already had a similar idea before: What if Harry spending so much of his time alone, discovers a talent for playing music? Be it piano, guitar or otherwise? It could be a facet to him we have never seen, and If Harry say, played this fics song to entertain, oh I don't know, some young people at a certain Yule Ball, the surprise factor would be amazing to behold! Anyway, thanks for this cool little fic. Hats off.

I love the fact that Harry was able to utilize magic with that acceptance of the impossible only a child can have. Now he has a way to protect himself. I would have enjoyed this expanded into a longer tale of Harry continuing to use his magic in such a unique way.
