Dang, that was a little cold. I sort of get why he said that, but still dang.
Anyway, I like that his motivation to get into Obelisk Blue is the sweet beds with the whole 'oh, and being in the same rank as these guys' is just sort of an after thought. On another note I do like the idea of someone being able to tear down the anime characters strategies by using deck builds created in the real world, or alternatively by using strategies not commonly seen in the anime. Zane and the rest might not appreciate it, but I do.
Anyway, interesting story idea. Sort of interested to see where you take it.

After reading through this a few times, the first thing that stands out - less than positively - is that the chapter feels clunky, plodding - something that the chapter's length doesn't particularly help.
Internal monologues and character descriptions occupy as much page-space in the first half of this thing as scenery visuals, a mixture that made reading this feel like wading through mud. With the Self-Insert's view on SI fanfiction and life, this even gets annoyingly preachy.
The later half - where the SI goes through the stations of canon - is comparatively grating. I realize that this is par-for-the-course with SI fics, but it's still -tremendously- wearying, because - Thousands Of Fics Have Done This Bit. I think it would have infinitely bettered this idea to just skip the admission duel, rather than make write-out-#3000.
Something that strains my suspension of disbelief is that this kid - who is otherwise presented as an ordinary YGO world native - has a copy of BLS Envoy.
Less strongly, as just a weird thing to include, that the IRL banlist gets projected into the animeverse. It helps with not giving him special treatment as much as the Proctor duel does - in that, you merit a kudos - but it just reads as pretty weird that people would make a fuzz over his use of GC when Jaden and others in GX get to use the card without complaint.
Despite how negative all this might have come off, I did want to like this thing, and I mean that as sincerely as I am able. Troubles are, between the issues I found with the prose and this thing following about the most cookie-cutter route for an opening, this honestly fails in capturing my interest.
That being said, good luck with this project.

I also find this first chapter great. I find the concept interesting and the execution well done. I've seen many stories on this site with great concepts, but poor execution. I find these stories almost unreadable, and eventually drop them. I sincerely hope this story doesn't follow the same path into obscurity.
