Poor Anne! And the possible foreshadowing with the dean’s assertions that she may continue her studies by correspondence? Although i wonder at the feasibility of getting a teaching post now, after school has already begun. Hmm… intrigued! I’m sure one Mr Blythe will be on hand to problem solve in his knight-ish ways for definitely non-altruistic reasons! ;)

I really love this line “As long as Anne is beside me on the journey, I don’t much mind the destination.”
Truly mirrors canon Gilbert’s sentiments - where for all his ambition, his one dream is building a home with Anne.

The one-two punch of Matthew’s followed by Tom’s letters never fail to bring tears to my eyes. And here I find myself deep in the wrenching sentimental abyss again. Marilla is right (as she often is!) - it’s the quietest residents of Green Gables who speaks loudest. There’s something so wonderful and “right with the world” for Matthew to have seen an Anne all grown up and happy. He clearly feels so keenly the regret and guilt of not being able to give Anne a home all those years ago. It’s almost as if there was some sort of supernatural kindred tether between their souls, even though they’d not met. Even more profound than that which binds Anne to Gilbert. After all, in canon, it was Matthew who saw her first. And here, it’s Tom.
Forgive my rudderless ramblings. Your stories and your writing always leads my mind on a meandering path all its own - I often feel like I’ve been led by Walter’s famed piper. All that’s to say, I love love love your story, and yes, it’s yet another reread, but how I revel in it, much like the rereads of the Anne books over the decades. Thank you so very much for sharing this story, and all the others, and I hope all’s well with you :)

How delightful is this chapter full of various letters! You write, as always most lovely and charming Gilbert and of course Mrs. Blythe knows how to appreciate the various felines of Patty's Place.
Letter style is a challenging genre, but you succeed in it brilliantly, because in addition to different news from different people, you also give us, the readers, a clear picture of a life of scholarship-student, in the Dean's letter, and that name causes heart palpitations, because of course you pay homage to Mr. Pritchard.
Anne's Trials of Publishing her stories will continue, but I'm sure that at some point certain stories will get their own audience, after all, it happened to Jo March as well.
And it's perfectly natural for Aunt Jo to reward Fred and Diana. Pris's letter to Tom was pleasing in itself, but the crown of these letters personally was Katherine, who is of course in Italy and enjoying her life.
I'm looking forward to what the upcoming winter semester will give them, there will be twists and turns that's for sure.
And since it's you, I'm happy to say that your way of recreating Kingsport and Redmond is second to none, not even lovely Maud, who must be watching your writings from the edge of a cloud with satisfaction, because this narrative is sprinkled with gold dust. Truly.
This is as ever lovely narrative to read and on occasion even re-re-re-read.

I love your writing, especially the beginning of this chapter. I love how you mirrored the first chapter with this one. It really shows how much the characters have changed since the beginning.

OK Mrs. VT, I am all caught up with this excellent story and wondering what new challenges you are dreaming up for the whole crew of young lovers and their friends. I hope you are well and just taking a bit of a break. I wish you good health and lots of inspiration. Your friend and admirer, Denie

This chapter shows so brilliantly how one "little" change - sending Tom to Green Gables instead of Anne - creates the whole avalanche of changes that just keep appearing. Anne is not getting Aunt Josephine's money will make her desperate for work, which may mean her and Gilbert won't be able to spend a summer together. But also there may be a new wedding date for Diana and Fred and Anne will be invited... but will she be able to come? Oh, the drama! And I love the letter catch up style of this chapter.

Because Anne didnt meet Aunt Jo there is no timely bequest for her to support her next year of study. I hope she finds a solution.
However, Fred is a worthy recipient. Its great that he feels accepted now.

I love love love this story you're writing! Your writing is so beautiful and so much in the style of LMM that I could almost think she wrote it!
You've made me care for non-canon characters (Tom!) which I find very rarely happens for me, and you've given a beautiful insight into what Anne's life might have been like had Green Gables not been a large part of it.
I love the way you've written all the characters, OBVIOUSLY Anne and Gilbert who are just a wonderful pairing in every universe, but I also adore the quiet love of Diana/Fred and Tom/Pris. Your characterisations of Phil and Charlie Sloane are also spot on - Charlie's letter to his mother a few chapters back had me giggling!
I know Real Life is busy and you've got plenty of stories on the go, but I'll be waiting patiently for the next chapter of this one! Thank you for all the time, energy and love you pour into it!

Anne has a much more difficult money wise at Redmond, circumstances are again her but I feel she will prevail. I love the idea of the cats at Patty's place it's good to know that they are still in attendance. That's sometimes how it feels with cats they have a mind of there own and always pick a comfy spot to cat nap the day away!
The letters are lovely souch information, I'm glad we see Tom's and pris's letters it was a real let down in Anne of Windy Willows that we never saw Gilbert's replies . Love your stories and writing style .
