I would definitely read a rewrite if you do it. As for which Pokemon if your saying the Metagross is his only pseudo legendary I would make him the shiny and have his other be regular.

I've rethought most of my previous suggestions in light of watching some trashlocke runs of emerald, platinum, and firered. I honedtly think going with a (mostly) trashlocke lineup has the potential to be really interesting, and force you to write a more cunning and tactical Ash. I also think Ash should have a full two teams. That seems a sensible amount, and allows for a total of 6 with dual typing without breaking the "No repeat types clause." Although, I think that should be allowed if the typing isn't a major player in the pokemon's move pool (e.g., Scyther and Scizor don't get too many Flying or Steel type moves, even by TM).

So here's my modified list:

1. Bulbasaur-Grass/Poison
2. Beldum (because you refuse to not include MetagrossSteel/Psychic
3. Golurk (A bit of a glass cannonGround/Ghost
4. Kechleon (Some movepool diversity and an interesting abilityNormal
5. Hitmonchan (Glass cannon but has move diversityFighting
6. Scyther/Scizor-Bug/Flying or Bug/Steel

If you can do the rewrite right and not abandon the story like many others just go for it.
I do vote for Ash to get a shiny Squirtle kind of make it unique from all the other Squirtle's Oak have given to dozens of trainers.
As for the Fire type gonna vote for either Magby or Hoondour, Charmander is cool and all but has been overused by this point. Also Elekid is a good choice unless you wanna give him a Shinx.
Not a fan of Metagross but ain't gonna ask you to change it either because if your fav pokemon gotta respect that.

If you'd like to rewrite it sure. Was reading it and while he got his pokemon leveled VERY fast it's your story. I thought you could keep this up tbf

i think could be a really wellbalanced, unique, and interesting team. you said no mixing of secondary types, so i realize Heracross/Volcarona and Rhyperior/Flygon break this rule, but i think they are incredibly distinct either way and some overlap is natural. could always switch Flygon for Haxorus but I think Flygon works better and could have a more interesting battling style between sand traps / sonic manipulation / dragon energy is more fun to write than Haxorus (who is one of my favorite dragons, still, and the one i want to write into my fanfiction). Shiftry is a personal favorite I would like to see; dark type speedster with leaf blades and hurricane/tornado generation and air manipulation in general is very cool.

metagross and dragonite are fine and my personal preference. that's all i'd say really. pls don't do the whole 1 pseudo rule.
