Honestly, they have the best parents. Truly. Can't say the same for the rest of the wider Avonlea community, but Matthew/Marilla and the elder Blythes are wonderful. It's a shame we don't see more of the Blythes in canon. Thanks for bringing them to life here. Isn't Gilbert's mother just a dream! I love her.

Mmmm... Enter Prince Charming and Christine under very different circumstances. Oddly enough, his calling her a kindred spirit here, very much unsettling poor Anne, carried a more romantic beat than the hero in the rainstorm moment. Even the following line seemed more poignant here than it did in canon.
Gilbert is all in with the endearments now. I'm all for it! :)

I love this chapter. Threading understanding and romance into their well-worn camaraderie. Both recognising what they have, navigating the shifting climes of their new circumstances, and what the compromises they will need to undertake to forge a future they would like to have. It's interesting that Gilbert had simply thought he'd continue as he's always been, biding his time, until Anne is "hit" with the revelation that she loves him too. But here, he's shocked to find that he might have some work to do too, and his assumption that his all-consuming love for Anne hasn't always manifested as the one perfection in his mind's eye. Anne, it would seem, is the party with more insight in this respect.

"I've found a nest for us, Anne."
I loved that line in HoD and it’s brilliantly played out here too! The exuberance from Gilbert in both occasions is simply infectious. But the master stroke here is the contrast in Anne’s reactions - mushroom vs house of dreams. The hilarity of “brown” wins hands down!

I don’t care what anyone says, but this is one of the most romantic proposals of all time. It very nearly tops the iconic one at the end of AotI.

This was my second read of your wonderfully crafted story. I now get the soup tureen reference in c42, having had a chance to read Rilla
:-).
I hope you're okay and will be able to finish this someday. Going off your comments, it doesn't sound like you have much left. I can see graduation as the finale - celebrating their accomplishment, proving Haillet wrong, and looking forward to Phil and Jo's wedding, to spending the summer in Avonlea, and to their forthcoming bundle of joy (pun intended) - love and contentment all around. That's how I picture it, anyway.
Take care.

Stupendous writing! You capture LMM’s voice so seamlessly. I could picture the character’s expressions and hear their words (in Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie version, of course). You are such a talented writer—I look forward to seeing more of your work (though, as a writer myself, I do understand about delays and writing difficulties)!

I am re-reading this as I need a little break and comforting as the school year begins. It is just as lovely as the first time through!

I had a week off work while my son and husband were away at summer camp and I fully intended to catch up on some deep cleaning and maybe paint. But instead I indulged myself in hours of fanfic and reread this story. This so the third round for me. I read it last summer for the first time then all over again at your last update. I hope you are well and are taking care of yourself! I still hope for an update, your writing is wonderful, but take care of yourself first and foremost!

Hey Cate! I’ve been binging this fic by recommendation from some of my Twitter friends and I think I’ve fallen in love. Just like Anne, it totally crept up on me and I cant seem to locate the beginning of it all. I especially loved the fight scene and all the aftermath and now them being sweet and domestic and Anne being sure of her feelings ahhh *squeal* not sure how active you are on here anymore or if you have any socials, but I made a little fanart(?) of Gilbert’s letters bc the visuals would not leave my head! Looking forward to finishing :D /megyolks/status/1528541884334936067?s21&tncU_6LJoKoeBnAlHRP53_w

I love this story every time I read it. In the past year this is the third time. If you ever want to write a sequel I’m all for it. I love that the whole crew stayed in Kingsport. I’d love to see the changes made at the asylum. We’ve never seen Moody in a romantic relationship and I’d love to see where that goes. Also I think Gilbert as a teacher/ scientist was brilliant! It honored his original character but added a layer that connects to Anne’s work that she is doing. I am enjoying this version of the Blythes. I love your writing and am about to re-read Shore of Dreams next. Please keep writing ️
