I just finished reading this for the second time a little over a month ago. I would've reviewed sooner, but real life happened and kicked me in the bud. However, I'm here now to review Transformers Animated Season 5: Live Like Legends .
This season was incredible. One of the things that I liked about this season was that you did one thing that the writers of Transformers Animated didn't: grow Bumblebee as a character. I'm the show, Bumblebee never learned his lesson, rarely if ever took responsibility for his actions, and was an immature bratt. Here he's more mature, uses his head, and actually takes responsibility for his actions (though that was brought in due to Optimus' "death") but he still knows when to have fun.
Speaking of Optimus, it didn't surprise me that he was still alive. I'm happy about though. It doesn't sit well with me whenever Optimus is killed permanently, in both official media and FanFiction ("Beast Wars" being the exception). He's quite determined during this season examples being wanting to get back home to Elita & Bumblebee, saving his friends from Lord Chumley, and saving Ultra Magnus from The Fallen. However, that determination could've gotten him killed when he wanted to go after The Fallen by himself. Nice job showing Optimus' flaws.
The Fallen. This guy. What twisted . A brilliantly well done S.O.B. if I may add. He's a charismatic and ruthless leader like Megatron but elevated by 11. The crap that he pulled throughout the season (killing fellow Decepticons for the heck of it, deceiving an amnesiac Sari, killing Sentinel & Alpha Trion, wanting to destroy Cybertron just so he could find a "Chaos Bringer" & threatening to destroy other planets if destroying Cybertron didn't work, reviving Megatron as Galvatron & overthrowing him, and possessing Ultra Magnus) made him much worse than Megatron. The Fallen was brilliantly well done.
Megatron being revived as Galvatron didn't surprise me. However, I was quite happy to see the character development he got this season. His change of spark was very well done and it made him a better leader than The Fallen. I was very happy when he became Megatron again.
Learned a little more about Solus Prime this season. She's smart, whitty, loyal, kind, understanding, self-reliant, and isn't afraid to speak her mind. No wonder why Ultra Magnus choose her as his sparkmate. They love each other and their relationship is incredibly healthy & adorable. Sad that she disappeared on that mission while Optimus and Sentinel were sparklings.
Wasn't a huge fan of the Autobot-human conflict throughout this season. But I have to give credit where credits due: thank you for not having every human being against the Autobots. I never liked how official media portrayed how most or all of humanity were against the Autobots, so I thank you for showing the opposite of that.
Sentinel has redeemed himself, is acting less like a douche & more like a responsible bot, and is now in charge of a Space Bridge Repair Crew. Rodimus is now in command of the Earth Crew and has grown as a character. Elita has redeemed herself and is now working with Perceptor and Wheeljack. Cade and Sari each have half of the Allspark in them. Ironhide and Chromia have grown closer while Chromia's past has come back to haunt her. Sideswipe trying to help his sister Sunstreaker remember who she is. Shattered Glass. I've really enjoyed a lot of these plot lines.
There was a continuity error in "The Forgotten Legacy". It involves the Steelhaven. The Steelhaven is actually an Omega Sentinel like Omega Supreme. His name is Sigma Supreme and was the last Omega Sentinel brought online during the Autobot-Decepticon War. Sigma was mentored by Ultra Magnus and was severely injured during the final battle. He's still alive but is in stasis lock as the Steelhaven. So, he wouldn't be around when Powered Convoy Magnus was in power. You could look up Sigma Supreme on .net if you want.
I loved the references to other Transformers media. The Star Saber, Agent Fowler, and Ratchet getting injected with Synthetic Energon from TFP. Major Lennox, Robert Epps, Crosshairs, Mearing, and Agent Simmons from the Bayverse. Optimus saying, "A booby trap that actually catches boobies" and Lord Chumley from G1. The Chaos Bringer. Tarn from IDW. Bumblebee losing his voice box. What next? Ultra Magnus losing his hand like he did in TFP?
Speaking of Ultra Magnus: you made him go through heck this season. His and Solus' past with The Fallen was tragic, especially since Ultra and The Fallen used to be friends. While wrong to keep his past with The Fallen a secret, I can understand why he didn't want his family to go through what he went through. He still seems sad over Solus' death and is trying to reach out to his grandson, Bumblebee. The revelation that The Fallen has been using Ultra as host since his (The Fallen) death shocked me, made worse by the fact that Ultra was unaware of what was happening until "Revenge of the Fallen". It broke my heart when Ultra blamed himself for everything that The Fallen has done, including the death of Sentinel. I'm happy that Ultra Magnus survived, but now I'm worried about what's going to happen to him in season 6.
The finale was intense and I eagerly waiting for when the episodes would come out. That final scene, holy shit. I have a feeling who that mysterious femme is, but I don't want to give that away until I know for sure. And since you confirmed that a certain Chaos Bringer will be making his debut, I can't wait to see what you have in store for future seasons. What I'm hoping for is that we'll find out what happened to Solus Prime. It was mentioned in season 4 that Rodimus' parents left him when he was a sparkling for some reason, so I hope that you'll tackle that as well.
See you in season 6!
