Beautiful. Just beautiful. You've done a terrific job with this sad alternate ending to an episode that almost and could've ended this way. I loved that line, "He's safe now...he's free from all the worry the world has to offer." You just get better and better with each story you churn out. I disappear a year or two and come back to see I've missed a special story and probably more to come during my SOSF reading binge.

I recently lost my mother and it can be tough. You think you're okay one day, and it hits you hard another day. Thankfully, I've had a great support system. Very atmospheric.

I enjoyed this short conversation between Mike and Lenny. While it is sad, it offers comfort and hope. I especially liked Lenny's words to Mike:
"He's safe now...He's free from all the worry this world has to offer."
I've also felt that way about loved ones who have passed and it is such a comforting thought. I also like that Jeannie will name her first child after Steve. I can see the Stone family moving forward and growing while still cherishing their memories of Steve. Great job!

Thank you for sharing with us the readers.
Needs a Kleenex warning, grin!
A great "What if", tale of missing a beloved son.

I found myself getting a bit teary eyed at this story, especially Lenny's words to Mike, that Steve is safe now and free from pain. How lovely that Jeannie will name her child after Steve, of course he will always live on in their hearts. As always, a well done story, thank you for sharing.

What a lovely story. I really enjoyed it, but I'm so glad this alternative ending, that you've chose here for your story, never really did happen in the series. I think we would all have been heartbroken. None of us will ever really understand Steve's actions that night. We just have to blame the scriptwriters of the series. Mike was plainly trying to hold himself and his grief together, and I loved how understanding Lenny was with him. Jeannie being at the graveside and meeting with her Dad was also a lovely touch. Her homage to Steve in her name for her baby means that Steve will live on in their hearts. Thanks also for the homage to my Dad. I think he'd have been pleased to see his name in print. A most enjoyable story. Thank you.

Heck, Keller, you got me crying. Susan Dey's eyes were hauntingly innocent that night, which made him think he could talk to her, but then she proved why she kept the company she kept when she pulled the trigger. Don't know what to say except the story really touched me.

What an excellent story filled with emotions. I have read it with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face. Tears for the pain Steve's departure caused Mike and Jeannie. And smile for the warm memories their hearts carry of Steve.
I understand Jeannie and Mike can't comprehend why Steve endangered his life willingly. It wasn't the way Steve acted normally. If Mike could he had brought Steve back. They won't ever forget about him. Especially now Jeannie's and Eric's first baby will be called after Steve. It is Jeannie's tribute to him.
