Good story! Opening with Maxerdok remembering his grandfather’s execution did good work setting the tone for the piece. I liked the last moment to back out and the description of the library is great. I particularly liked them thinking about the stars.

Interesting story. the Xanyr Shard seems a bit odd - Shard is the name for a Fallen Empire, they usually renamed themselves 'Reclaimers' or something when they awaken - but weaving it into their culture of worshiping a 'Shard' is nice!
Poor Rax, though. Of all the Awakened Empires they could be subject to, it had to be the Fanatic Xenophobes. Even the Spiritualists would've been better; they, at least, don't purge conquered worlds.
A very good story! I don't have any pitches atm, but I'm confident someone with your talent can do it all on your own.
