I can’t get over the nights I let escape me, reading until my vision blurred and the creeping lapis sky brightened my room. This story washed away burdens that I never knew I had. Burdens of living, and tradgedy, and love. Before reading this, I never could understand how Mei and Gabu’s love could exist without forbidden affairs between predator and prey. It was tragic, and beautiful, and life all at once. You are an amazing writer, and I hope to be captivated by another story sometime.

I watched Arashi no Yoru Ni back in January 2020 and decided to revisit it two years later, and I just HAD to search up fanarts and fics for this film. I stumbled upon yours in mid-January and in less than 2 weeks I got to Part 3. I decided to take a break so that way i didnt finish this wonderful story TOO soon, but i hadnt realized it had been 7 months. Finally finished 42 yesterday, epilogue today.
I enjoyed every part of this story from beginning to end. My favorite parts of the story had to be from when bepo showed up or when Lala acted so mysterious. Gabu being excited about being a father and the fact that Kuro wanted to be mates with Mei were also personal favorites, kinda wish we got to see more of those! 3 i also liked how shocking and surprising some parts of the story felt, such as Mei returning to his pack, or Gabu's son dying and the runt of the family becoming the stronger one overtime. The epilogue was especially shocking, as I wasn't expecting Gabu and Mei to enter human civilization, that is fun to think about
what made me read to the end were our two protagonists! i enjoyed every scene they were in, and nothing regarding them in this fanfic disappointed!
if i steered the story, i probably would've explored a deeper, likely romantic relationship between gabu and mei and the story would've likely been 10 or more chapters long. You have inspired me however to try and come up with a fanfic of my own for these two characters, so whenever I have the time I'll see what i can come up with.
This was a fun read, never stop making stories! Your creativity is wonderful 3

Perhaps it's my love for the source material, but this has got to be one of the best stories I've ever read. It was the highlight of my day for over six weeks. I looked forward to reading a new chapter each night on my tablet.
This story begins right after the movie, with just Mei and Gabu. Since the CGI series never reached that point, in my mind was a male Mei, and scruffy Gabu, both with Tustin Gilmer Macafee's voices. Their first discussions came to life in interesting detail due to this. It's like the movie never ended.
Occasionally, the smooth brown-furred wolf of the TV series became my imagined Gabu. As the story progressed, this Gabu became the dominant one. To me, they are distinctly different wolves. Strangely, Mei remained male throughout. Even flashbacks to the CGI series' events received a spontaneous mental edit to account for this difference.
Each chapter is basically a day, and once time started to "speed up" I wanted it to slow down. I'm sure that would have made it difficult to write, as it's a story and not a day-to-day log of events. I was having a such a great time witnessing their lives together, complications and all.
Plus there's the bonus chapter, 43. After such a lovely story, the author could have written 15,000 words about Gabu having fleas and I still would have read it. I at least owed him that. It's a continuation beyond the end of his tale, but take it with a grain of salt. It's a "why not?" sort of thing. Enjoy it.
While the details have faded in time, the overall feeling it gave me remains. Some things made me smile, others broke my heart. You will experience emotions here. I felt for Gabu, as expected. Surprisingly, I felt for Mei too. I even felt pity towards a little rodent! But I also got to share in their joys as well. What a ride.
Glad I found this story after it was complete. Couldn't imagine waiting a week for each new chapter. Releasing the chapters "live" as they are written sounds like a dangerous way to write, but the author never painted himself into a corner. The quality of the writing remains constant throughout, and the story has a proper ending.
"Hoofy happy?"
Definitely. Thanks, Ringcaat.

Notice how when she said she blamed giro, bari and the pack but not gabu...she never included mei with him.

Hello, first of all I am really enjoying your story but ... is there something I don't understand ... why didn't Mei appear in this whole chapter? ... maybe if she had tried to talk to Himari, although if you wanted to getting in the end was the shock of his death ... the truth that you did it, but seeing things from my particular pubic view ... I think ... you could have added two scenes ... one in which Himari was he would have approached the "club of the stream" and asked them to teach him how to survive with fruits and berries, that he would have tried to eat other things instead of meat ... although surely in the end a wolf does not survive without eating meat, the truth is is that there is a fruit that they eat when there are food shortages, you can investigate if you like, but of course it is like an emergency supplement to obtain nutrients and energy, and the second scene ... Mei talking to the little wolf ... from his unique perspective, maybe he could have given the wolf reason to follow go living ... or at least to reconsider your options a little, but it was certainly a beautiful chapter, thanks for letting me read it, although ... it would be good if it were in Spanish, my native language because it is more difficult for me to translate all the idioms and words that are usually used in stories, such as Bepo's way of speaking ... but I leave it only as a suggestion, but it would be great if I could read this story in my language, to understand all its details.

Lol? This is a heavy twist to an bonus chapter, heh.
And now the story that we read is actually Mei's creation, very interesting. :D
Now about the chapter itself:
I was about to kill you ringcat when Gabu get shoted man I was thinking "What the hell you're doing man?" anyway from you... i can expect everything, you aways love to put us in this shocking situations, glad that everything ends well.
Nogusa and Kyrie are now mates, heh, I love to hear this kinds of relations, "Can you tell me more?", just kidding :P
I loved to know how each other psycology is and hearing that Gabu is kinda suicidal, well i'm not sure of this one anyway.
At all very crazy and good post plot, but on my own view I dont consider this canon.

Out of all the things I was expecting the epilogue to this story to be, a silly bonus chapter involving Mei and Gabu joining human society was not one of them. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it though. It kind of feels like it could be a prequel to Zootopia, what with the concept of predator and prey co-existing in a modern civilization. I'm not sure if I'll have this chapter be part of my Arashi no Yoru Ni headcanon like the rest of the story, but rest assured that I had a lot of fun reading it.
By the way, I sent you an email recently saying hi and showing off my ANYN merchandise. Just thought I'd give you a heads up in case you haven't seen it. ;)

Woah... what an unexpected epilogue. What in the world? Where did this come from? (Anyone who doesn't want spoilers stop here!)
You... turned the fantasy/fairy tale world into a post-apocalyptic, almost-hard sci-fi, 'rejoining society after living in the wild' story? Okay, I have to ask where this came from!
(I liked it.)
(Somehow you actually pulled it off. You crazy author you.)
Somehow having Gabu and Mei as unwitting social revolution celebrities is hilarious and just outrageous enough to work.
Lala tested negative for pyschopathy? I don't put it past her to cheat on the test...
Do you have any plans for stories in this insane-but-moreish setting?

Greatest chapter ever...But while animal and human were coexsisting peacefully...there was another world unknown to them...The Yo-kai world...and a special watch to connect all, man, beast, and spirit.
I literally thought of Yo-kai watch as I read this. XD, Might be a good crossover idea, No?

Ahhhhhhhhh! You ended this story so PERFECTLY!
That was probably one of the most satisfying endings I have ever read! You somehow managed to write a bittersweet ending without the bitter, and with more of the sweet!
I really cant wait to read more content from you.

Thank you so much for writing this story. Arashi no Yoru Ni is one of my all-time favorite movies, and I've desperately wanted to see some kind of continuation to it for a long time, even if it was just a fanfic. Not only did this story managed to meet my expectations, but it surpassed them. I legitimately feel like this could be a sequel to the film, and because of that, I'm willing to consider it my headcanon for what happens next. Every character from the film was portrayed spot-on, acting exactly how I would imagine them to act in the scenarios they were put in. All of the original characters were a lot of fun and fit in perfectly with the existing ones. You even managed to make me fall in love with the TV show characters, which is really saying something considering I'm not the biggest fan of Himitsu no Tomodachi (it's okay on its own, but I don't feel like it does the movie justice). Overall, this was a very funny, emotional, well-written, and just flat-out enjoyable story, and is hands down the best Arashi no Yoru Ni fanfic on the internet.
And now for me to address some of things you mentioned in the Author's Note:
1. If you feel like the characters have more life in them and don't want to leave them behind, why not try writing some spin-off fanfics? I'd love to see what Meiko and Bari are up to in their southwestern home, or what Mii is doing with her new boyfriend. I wouldn't even mind a story about the adventures Boro goes on after leaving his pack.
2. My favorite part of the story was pretty much the entirety of Chapter 30. Seeing Gabu so excited about making a whole club of new friends was adorable, the predators and prey showing off different aspects of themselves to each other was a lot of fun, and Mei singing Gabu a lullaby in order to calm him down about the next hunting day was very sweet.
3. It doesn't surprise me this story got a lot of international readers, given that it's based on a Japanese film that technically wasn't released in the United States. Thank Leto the internet allows us to discover hidden gems from foreign cultures that we'd otherwise know nothing about.
4. It's really cool that you've made lasting friendships from this story. I'd love to be friends with you, but I'm not sure how that would work considering I don't have a or Archive of Our Own account. I'm posting this comment as a guest.

Great story! It's an interesting concept to envision, a goat and a wolf being friends, and I truly enjoyed the way you added onto Gabu and Mei's story after the movie! You're an amazing author, and I hope this won't be the last we read of these two!

dude... I do not know... I'm crying here, much more than in history, when I saw the word "The end" and I continued to read your comments I did not notice that I was wiping away my tears, I just do not know what I'm feeling, I'm happy, I'm sad... I can not describe... I do not even know what to say.
That was really something...
About the chapter:
I hate to remember the fact that Lala might be chasing Mei, I was wondering what you're doing ringcaat? Are you really going to kill him too?
I was really relieved to be wrong but still apprehensive, how much gabu was going to keep the promise, I had little dejavu of the film when gabu said that it was not going to kill him, my heart was accelerated.
But unhappily several lives have gone, some brutal, others acceptable and others that I intend to accept as "is inevitable."
And I'm really happy about how this chapter ends.
In reality there is one thing I would like, but...
-
What made me read to the end?
That's very simple, I love that kind of genre, predator and prey being friends and having to overcome the obstacles that come with it, it's something that I really love.
Do I have a favorite part?
This is now difficult, I do not think it's fair to choose between them, they were all very good on various themes during the walk of the chapters.
But let's go. which comes to mind quickly:
Gabu pretending to be a carpet, Himari being traumatized, Mei accepting to be hunted by the wolves, Lala saying "dirt word" and at last Gabu's reation when Lala said she was pregnant.
How do you think you might have steered the story?
Do I have to answer this one? You know man. :P
-
Probably should say something last but I'm not good with it, who knows in epilogue or elsewhere ...
At least one thing I'm sure to say:
Thanks for making me cry, honestly it shows how I loved this novel.
