Gilbert was always going to read her letter, though. He couldnt've avoided the temptation for forever but no doubt Phil spurred him on.

Oh absolutely lovely. Clever way to get the letter delivered and Phil's letter the catalyst to him reading it. Now I can't wait for Gilbert's reaction. I hope he gets the underlying message that she loves him.

I feel I like this one even better, perhaps because it's more succint. As heartbreaking as it is, it's only natural that she should feel guilty... Are you writing more of these? I'd be cool to see her talk a little more of the time they weren't friends anymore but were waiting for the other to make the first step. Again, it's nice to see her saying that she loves Gilbert, but between the lines (because for all she knows he's engaged). Good job! Keep it up!

This is an original way to show what Anne was thinking on that night - it seems fitting that she'd need to put her thoughts onto paper in order to make sense of them. To me, she's talking to herself more than she's explaining things to Gilbert. I like how you focus on her background, too, and that you go further than just her declaring her love over and over again (which you could've done, of course). I also like at the end when she acknowledges Christine without bitterness. Plus, it really sounds like Anne when you write her!
