Wow.
Soooooo good. Like, almost too good it’s unbelievable.
This story is so addictive that I have reread it countless times, up until the point where I’m sure I could recite some of what happens. The twists, the turns, the hurt, the suspense, the cliffhangers, the hurt, the comfort, the hurt, and even more hurt before some more comfort sprinkled on top. This work is amazing and I can never wait for another update. The way you write makes it feel like the characters and story are real beyond the words, they jump out of the (metaphorical) page. I sometimes find myself making up my own ideas about where the story may go next and I love that this allows for it. Like for example (and I think someone mentioned this before) Jack, could something happen with her in the future? There are so many different questions that emerge from every chapter and so many directions it could go in and somehow connections and revelations are suddenly made that you forgot all about. Like the compass! Where did that come from?! And the username with smith!? And the fact that I’m pretty sure Evie worked at the hospital Alex was at before (maybe… I’m not actually sure if I’m right on that, ignore me if not). Then cuts to Snake and the other guy, a whole new story in itself. I can’t wait for that connection to unveil itself. This is SUCH a well thought out story and it shines through every chapter, in every sentence even.
The slow but fast pace makes everything feel so much more real, the deep dives into emotions I think are so important and make our love for the characters grow so so much. The stories may not be real, but the emotions are. Then the constant interruptions of danger (!) preventing the emotions being sorted through and problems being solved. It’s like a tangled web of a need for the truth to come out, a need for lots of crying, and everyone needing (probably professional) help. A web that needs to be untangled carefully and slowly but we’re just waiting for that to happen at its own pace.
These characters are actually amazing and I hope none of them get hurt from now (a subtle please for Lion).
Lion and Alex, their bond, I can’t even. And where do they go from now? Aghhhh. And Bear having to face his problems but GO him for the slap across the face with a metal tray, and Tiger becoming the temporary leader holding everyone including himself together, and Wolf being a strong presence even though he’s worried about Snake, and poor Snake and poor Eagle with the baby thing and Fox and everyone basically. But Efrem, love, and the trio of him Smithers and the Sergeant- one of the best things ever, I can’t wait to see if anyone else unexpected turns up. And I love the Sergeant’s personality. And Brecon Beacons back again, I hope they make it there. And MISHA, he better live happy and healthy forever. I can’t wait for the units to find out about him properly. And imagine him and Jessie meeting. Eeek. But the Elliot thing nooooooooo. I just know Alex is gonna internalise that for a while, then it’ll bite him later. And stupid MI6 and stupid SCORPIA. He’s literally a 16 year old boy, can he not just be left alone. See, I’m way too into this. That’s just what this story does. It even feels inadequate to call it a story, it’s more of just a massive adventure.
If this was first published in Feb 2019 then it has almost been 6 years since this began. Six. And it never gets boring. There’s always more to look forward to and numerous reasons to read it over again. Every time I do, I find something I missed the first time. In three words, unrelenting, emotional, and addictive are what I would use to describe this story.
It could literally go on forever, even just stories about Alex all grown up, freed from SCORPIA and MI6 (is what i hope) with a family and friends who love him would be interesting with these characters. There is so much to say, but I’m gonna stop now.
Sorry for the rant, I felt my love for this story needed to be expressed.
