While some ideas are mildly interesting it's just generally poorly written. You don't bother starting new paragraphs when people are speaking which is one of the basic tenets of writing and there are other quite clumsy elements. Cressen is the Maester of Storm's End, I'm pretty sure he'd know perfectly well that Jon Connington is a friend of Rhaegar and that's why the Connington's aren't being summoned. It's silly not to have him know that and its presumably there just to make him look better which is silly.
