Just In
for The Despairing Joke

It would be interesting for Makoto or Junko to be Joker's "Batman".

This was a great chapter to compare Joker's mentality to Junko. But can't wait to see how Junko fights back.

Togami: (graps Joker by the shoulder)
Joker: "Hey, what the heck?"
Togami: "Who are you?"
Joker: "Joker."
Togami: (slightly frustrated) Not 'what'. Who?

You're story, while having a very neat concept, leaves much to be desired. A teenaged Joker rescuing the trapped students at Hope's Peak to fuck with Junko, yeah that would be neat. But, you are simply not doing a very good job of selling it. You're characterization is flat and practically non-existent, your action scenes are poorly written and choreographed, and everything just seems so dull. Joker in this type of scenario, I imagine him as resembling Jerome Vaeska pre-mutilation with the white skin and green hair of Jeremiah, but his personality is heavily based on John Doe from the Telltale Games, in that he is not evil, just a little bit crazy. Like John, he suffers from amnesia. He has absolutely no real recollection of his past, his family, or even his own name. All he is certain of is that the world around him has changed in a rather dramatic way, and he is somewhat anxious to discover the place he occupies within it. This Joker, he is a genuinely good and honest person, yet, like John, there are certain instances in which he just loses control, like there is a monster traped within him, and it has broken out of its cage. Naturally the students of Hope's Peak, Sayaka, Mokoto and Hina especially, are shocked and horrified to see Joker in this animal like state of aggression, because he is usually such a sweet ,if socially awkward, young man. When Joker recomposes himself, he apologizes almost instantly, understanding his new friends' terror and discomfort. He doesn't even blame them. He admits at times that even he is frightened of himself and the danger that he may pose to other people. Though despite all of this, Joker tries his best to smile and put on a happy face, both as a coping mechanism and as a genuine effort to brighten the perspectives of those around him. As time goes by, Joker admits to both himself and his new friends that not only does he care for them, he has come to love them, and that he can't possibly imagine his life without any of them, that his life simply would not be worth living without any of them. He states that for as long as he can remember, he has believed that this world is nothing more than a black awful joke, a monstrously macabre gag, in which nothing truly matters. He states how he had once believed that fate was simply evil, that everything was predetermined, not by some higher power, but rather by the rules of human nature, however, meeting the Students of Hope's Peak has changed his mind on much of these pessimistic beliefs, for now Joker dares to dream that fate is not predetermined, but rather that he and others can actively shape their own destiny, and that fate, which he had once attached so many negative connotations to, is what brought him to his current situation; a young man surrounded by those who accept him, in spite of everything. Other than antagonizing Junko and Ultimate Despair, and associating himself with the Students of Hope's Peak, Joker rather enjoys taking pictures and recording videos on his phone (a purple one with a green stripe going down the back), listening to a variety of music, namely Queen, Sinatra, Williams, the Platters etc. and fiddling around with all sorts of gadgets and chemical concoctions. Skill wise, Joker is a jack of many trades. He is a talented escape artist, juggler, knife thrower/fighter, chemist (enough to qualify as an Ultimate), engineer, explosives expert, magician (stage), hand-to-hand combatant, gunsman, and is rather good at hot-wiring cars. He usually goes into battle with some sort of prop-themed weapon or gadget of his own invention, such as flowers that squirt acid or spray a toxic or paralytic gas, exploding jack-in-the-boxes (like in the movie "Return of the Joker), exploding multicolored marbles, razor-sharp playing cards, the electric joy buzzer, a rubber chicken with a brick of lead inside, you know. Though, he is also good with some more conventional weapons, such as a two-tone Glock or a butterfly knife with a green handle. What do you think of that? How does that sound?
