Interesting thought, but the Hogwarts vanishing cabinet wasn’t broken until the Nearly Headless had Peeves break it to distract Filch from punishing Harry during Second Year. The Floo mishap happens the summer before. The broken VC also wasn’t put in the RoHT until sometime during or after Fifth Year because the Twins shoved one of the Inquisitorial Squad into it. I’m pretty sure that guy talking about the experience is what clued Malloy in to the fact that it was paired to the one in Borgin and Burkes.

Ok... I don't get it... it was brilliant and interesting, then the ending kind of fizzled out. Like reaching for my treat jar and finding it empty... it feels like it's missing an end... it's good, but only a 6 out of ten...

omake?: What ever doodads and trinkets that the Headmaster had to check on Harry Potter were going completely bonkers! It was such a shame that the only witnesses to this were the sorting hat, the portraits, and Fawkes the Phoenix, who decided that it would be an excellent idea to skedaddle with the sorting hat, and flamed out of there before those very same contraptions blew up and destroyed the office!
When Albus P.W.B. Dumbledore attempted to return to his office from wherever he was at the time, he not only found that he couldn't, and that he couldn't flame back with Fawkes, but the he also... well..
Let's just say that certain truths and "hidden agendas" of his were revealed.

honestly things like floo and apparation kind of break the fantasy for me a bit. i mean if you think about it the only ways to travel are apparation, broom floo or portkey. All of them are equally dangerous. Who in their right mind would use any of these? one has the risk of leaving a body part behind, another requires you flying at least eight stories off the ground (to make it harder to spot) Floo requires you speak clearly. (how did quirrel even get into hogwarts with that stuttering cover) if you let go of a portkey mid travel you can fall off.
