Maybe I'm missing it, but where is she realizing that everything Castle did was to protect her and everything she has done has been to protect her heart, pride, ego, etc. Is this a balanced relationship? In canon no! In fanfiction, this imbalance can be fixed. Please fix it.

Really liked Kate's mental discussion with her Mom. Castle makes good points, and it looks like Kate is agreeing. BUT she didn't address with Rick what Burke pointed out: Kate's most angry that Rick met with Smith alone.
