Good lord this is like Episode I all over again, Aang as a psuedo-Darth Vader? Unheard of before but goddamn I'm loving it!

Even if it was shot, it was a great chapter! I kind of hope Aang wins and finds a way to free himself from Vaatu. And maybe see an Azulaang progression.

Yay the seeds for Azulaang are being sewn :). I do hope that this ends up being the main ship partially due to the fact that not many high quality stories (like yours) involve this ship. (also might be due to the fact that Azulaang is my otp). At the end of the day though, it's your story so do whatever you think would be best :).

Did you base this off of star wars? Aang accused Katara of bringing Zuko, Sokka, and Toph to kill him, when she had no idea they would arrive right after her. This is quite similar to how Anakin accuses Padme of bringing Obi-wan to kill him, when Padme, similarly to Katara, had no clue he had snuck onboard. Then, both Anakin and Aang were left to die next to lava, even after asking for help, and when the others walked away, they both yelled out in anger, claiming to hate them. Then, the next thing we're shown is about 20 years later for both Star wars, and this fanfiction. Both get metal parts,
are saved by an evil being, and seek revenge. Aang hunts down previous avatars, just like Anakin hunts down Jedi. And both of their lovers give birth to twins, then die right after without Aang or Anakin knowing, but are told they died by their "savior".

I liked the idea of Aang being dark, it's nice to not see him chipper and positive all the time. I left off on this chapter because I think it's starting to get a little too complicated with the Vaatu stuff and I'm a little confused. Thank you for writing anyway

Please tell me Appa isn't actually dead. It will literally break my heart if he is. I cried. Please bring Appa back to life somehow

Alright, first things first I would like to apologize for not reviewing last chapter, I know in your notes you sort of showed that you are not upset with this, in fact quite the contrary, but I feel the need to do this nevertheless. I honestly didn't know what to write there and I didn't want to put just "great chapter, dude"... Is this a reviewer's block? And since English is NOT my native tongue, it did not help the case.
But anyway, actual review time! Weirdly enough I appreciated this one month pause in updates. No, don't get me wrong, I really like your story, but just prior to this I reread some of the first chapters to this story (Aang's succumbing to darkness). I did this just to refresh some of the lore info I might have forgotten. But while reading these chapters and while also remembering some of the stuff that will happen later I couldn't help myself but to shed a little tear. Seriously, behind all this cool bloody and gory badassery that's been happening here for the last few chapters, you kind of forget the tragedy of it all. How Aang was such a sweet guy, his only desire is to be loved, and how he was corrupted by evil while all the avatars did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to prevent it. How Aang had become a monsterremembering all this while reading how heads over heels Aang was once desperately looking for his forever girl in the Fire Nation Palacethis blow was unbearable. During this month I wasn't very much into ATLA fandom for some reason. It was either job, or something else that kept my attention, so consequently I didn't think about this story much. But this chapter, especcialy the scene of Aang's attack has reminded me of those feellings, and dude, that was just as hard. I guess what I'm trying to tell here is that I found a new layer to this story and even more appreciation for it.
BUT there's always a but. I didn't quite understand Zuko's decision to make Chief of the Southern Water Tribe his alternate (I'm not to sure about this choice of word tbh but you get the idea). Yes, Zuko and Hakoda may be friends, but that doesn't mean actions like this are acceptable. How would Fire Nation citizens react to thishaving a foreigner rulling their country whatever state of disarray it may be in? Usually when something like this occurs and rulers cannot do their job for various reasons, they have other people in the government to temporarily do the job, usually prime ministers. I doubt the whole government of the Fire Nation was slaughtered during the attack, in fact I believe they were the first to get on the ships (that's just how things are, however unjust they may be). So instead of choosing someone who understands the specifics of the Fire Nation, Zuko chooses the guy who doesn't know them, and moreover has his hands full with rulling his own country as well? *raises eyebrow* Sorry for the rant, but really?
I'm intrigued by the Southern Air Temple arc we will have from the next chapter on, I assume. I wonder what our heroes will find there. (that line was like intro and outro in some superhero show from the sixties, isn't?).
And the wait for a new chapter carries on, take all the time you need though

...one more character to pair Aang with (I don't consider Katara, because I think it's gonna be weird since if Katara is to be resurected right now, she would be what, 15? And Aang is 33 now by my calculation. But we'll see) but Azulaang has something that others have not. Some sort of mutuality. Yeah, we've seen Toph in love with Aang, but is he in love with her even remotely? But when it comes to Azula, Aang as I said before is very lenient with her, and what's more surprising it's the fact that he SMILED to her. Not chuckled or smirked like he would have done earlier but genuinely SMILED. It all may be a some sort of a plot or a game of his and he still doesn't care about her at all, but I find it hard to believe. Because one of the few traits Aang has actually kept instead of throwing away is being genuine with his emotions. He may hide them at times, yes, but when he does show them, they're genuine. So yeah, I think it's turning out to be an Azulaang story, the only thing I want to get out of Taang by this point is to have Toph tell Aang about her feelings, because it would seem like a total waste, if you were not to write this. Ok, now to other things.
So, now Aang knows that the spirit of Darkness and everything that's bad in the world LIED to him about Katara's children being dead. Does this mean we should expect more of Vaatu in the upcoming chapters? It will certainly be interesting to see this meeting and partly because of how similar and how different it will be from their first meeting all these years ago. Instead of 13 y.o. boy who despite his anger and impressive powers had an ultimate weakness - his loved ones - it's going to be a matured person, more powerful than he's ever been before and seemingly without any weaknesses. Another reason on why this encounter's gotta be interesting is that I wanted to know the nature of their relationship. Does Aang still want revenge on Vaatu for what he's done and all this collecting of essence of the previous Avatars is all just a way to have enough power to do so? Is Aang still not capable enough to beat him? Why? Well I kinda know why, but still. After the conversation with Kya it seems to me that Aang considers having another her by his side. We've seen only the start of his attempts to sway her to his side so far, but I'm looking forward to see more of it.
I did not see Tenzin's romantic life having made an appearance in this fic coming, let me be clear here. Don't know what to say on this, other than, wow. Surely you have plans for it, do you not?
Ozai REGRETS?! What a truly positive impact Aang has on people even now, that even a man like OZAI can experience the feelings of regret and paternal love, man, surely his impact on the world is gonna be even more healing and wholesome...
I like the idea of another reviewer for a name for this fic, but the choice is yours.
You were not the only one surprised with how quickly you managed to get this chapter done, not gonna lie. It was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one, and I've been itching all day to finally read this chapter, and once again you did not disappoint. Hope to see more from you soon

A title with great potential would be one that has a word connotating breaking or shattering - namely, the shattering of Aang's past life and relations, the shattering of the world due to the Avatar's fall, and especially the fragmentation of the Avatar's power into two people that aren't supposed to be carrying the Avatar's legacy in the first place.
