Snape does 'inspire' that view on him. insulting people, being a nasty teacher, being really petty on the kid of the person he getting back at. his anti-social habits, brewing in his lab most of the time, aren't a bad thing but when coupled with the things I listed. yeah, he doesn't care if people hate him or misjudge him. He does his own thing for his own reasons.
