My guess is that they were both inquiring about each other at work? I can’t see a happy ending unless Bella was somehow also interested in Edward. Maybe she even found her own voice recorder! Maybe it’s all a sick and twisted company team bonding…

This is wild! I can’t wait for them both to figure out what’s going on. I imagine things aren’t what they seem. Maybe Edward is actually the one being set up and that recording was planted to make him think it was somehow his idea. Maybe they aren’t actually on an island at all. I hope you find your muse for this one soon. I’m loving this!

Okay, I did have to come back to this chapter to say that Bella's backstory here is so utterly heartbreaking!
And Edward... poor Edward having such horrible memories of that time... personally, having had serious self-consciousness issues well into my thirties, I can relate all too well to having "judgement" issues against those who passed life with me in high school. I didn't experience anything quite so dramatic/traumatic as E in this story, but where his mind is on both Bella & Jacob (and the rest of Forks HS) is really spot on.
I mean, I guess we all do it to some degree... just remember what people were like in HS before they were really "people"... which is a shame, really. Hmmm... I wonder how people remember me? Ugh. What a thought.
But I'm glad that he so easily is able to switch his perspective here and realize how wrong he was (without beating himself up over it).
And what is up with their anger issues (prev chapter)?

Okay... I know I skipped like a jerk... I have issues with racing to the next chapter! I'd promise I'll go back and review, but I might not, so I don't want to lie.
But here is me... letting you know that I am loving this... and you've set up such a complete mystery so well I am DYING to know! Did Bella get a recording too? I'm SO SO CURIOUS! And what could Edward's motivations have been? Was this something they both signed up for? Is it bigger than just them? Man oh man do I want to know!
I do hope you are, in fact, writing. I'm currently juggling 4 different fics (I have SO MANY plots I abandoned a decade ago!) I've got a nice Regency Era vampfic going on, a depression era crazy vamp Bella fic mystery, an AH poly romance fic that starts in OBX, and my current WIP: A twilight AU that simultaneously chronicles Edward's entire life via his personal journals.
I know it seems like I'm pimping myself in your review... but I'm hoping it can serve as some inspiration... I know for me, just the THOUGHT of others writing gets my creative juices flowing. And the more fic I consume, the more I am compelled to write. IDK, for me, writers feed the writer in me.

Hmmmm... so hard to picture Edward as anything other than some ridiculously ethereal beauty, Hahaha... I'm trying, but I just keep picturing Ryan Reynolds in Just Friends. The detail is graphic enough... but the the image just doesn't want to take! Like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Definitely a "Lost" feel to this.
How's the writing going? I've been recently writing TwiFic again too... can't seem to stay away. I do hope that someday I can accomplish what you have on your end, but I do believe that ship sailed a long time ago. Meh... once I start posting again, I'll be happy to get a few reviews. I know the fandom isn't what it used to be. Bit it is so very comforting to get occasional updates from some of my longtime favorites... like yourself!
I like this one already. Perfectly setup. Excellent mystery quality. Hope ling you have a stockpile of chapters at the ready after Chapter 7... maybe? Shrugs... well, I know how it goes.
