A rather unpleasant story and not worth reading. A fucking insult to Elizabeth and Darcy

Good story, but do take it out of the Darcy/Elizabeth realm. That was just totally irksome, that you would take their delightful and inspiring story and hijack it into one of dry marriages of the Ton.

Wow, this is going to be a fic that sticks with me for a long time I think! I’m usually very much in the Lizzy/Darcy HEA camp, but I couldn’t put this down even when it got rough. Great job with this, the research and attention to detail is very impressive! I saw it all play in front of my like a movie. Thanks for sharing with us! I’m glad I went digging and found this :)

I've just read through the whole story - well in several sittings over a few days! What an interesting take on JAFF, I did find the character development rather upsetting but I do enjoy historical fiction and I think this could almost stand alone without the D&E references (would need a bit more introduction to other characters) What I am finding rather chilling is that you wrote this over 2 years ago about events 200 years ago, and your descriptions of the political wranglings, lies and manipulations seem to be just as valid today. As you will guess I haven't read your reviews but I bet I'm not the only person to have picked this up! A very good read, Thank you

What a wonderful story. This is the first FF I have read that feels like it good be like this. Like you I never believed in a HEA. There must be challenges. To me the story you wrote sounds very likely. As a dramaturg, I am quite focussed on characters. And as must as I the romantic in me would like to believe Darcy is a socialist who protects the gay men and supports the women rights ideas of the 21st century, he just is not that sort of a men. I like the choices you made with the characters. To me they way Darcy, Elisabeth, but also Kitty and Lydia have developed in your story makes sense. Most ff I read with a smile: the writers just take over the romantic bit of Jane Austens original. That makes it funny to me. One can do that of course. But Austen wrote so much more than romance. And yours is the first story, I can relate to. This is a way it could have been. Bravo! And thank you. I really enjoyed reading it.

OMG … When I commented 2 chapters back, I never would have guessed THIS development. Fantastic for the story but obviously very disturbing … just wonder at the likelyhood of Bess’ letter reaching Matlock … quite a coincidence … Anyway … amazing plot!

Oh dear … I’ve been waiting for this point with the reference to her fathers original warnings about esteem. Cannot wait to see what comes next! So glad the story is complete and that I may binge it at my own pace :-) Overall it’s brilliant! As much as I like HEA, this plot certainly adds a compelling twist, too, and I love all the underlying facts and added AN’s. Would be fantastic to have had the same story from Darcy/Matlocks POV! Hope the author may feel inspired to write that!

Historically interesting, but otherwise a "downer". In the A.N. for chapter 15 you warned us this wasn't a fuzzy cuddly romance; it was more like a cold bucket of water in the face. Still I was glad for the warning and bailed, right to chapter 50. Glad I didn't stick around. You're a good writer and your story certainly is interesting, but still depressing.

I completely agree with GlassMazeGazer. His/her detailed comments about this story are things that I believe matter to the story itself.
The author indicates that Elizabeth has changed, grown, after eight years of marriage. However, it seems that she just reverted back to the free, spoiled (no responsibilities), judgemental 20 year old self, actually worse, because now she believes that her opinion is the ultimate true.
Darcy did revert back to his reserved, out of reach haughty person, but perhaps he has more reasons to fall back to that pattern.
Their behavior is unfortunate and the damage to each other and their marriage feels irrevocable.
It feels as if their eight years of marriage did not do anything to learn to hold to each other in times of trouble. They were both so easily influenced by others. However, Elizabeth’s behavior really takes such a turn that leaves me with the feeling that she is not intellectually aware of anything but her needs, no regard for her children, no trying to understand the changes of the times and challenges that brought to Darcy and her family. Even Lydia

Really enjoyed the story. It was very different from the usual P&P but I found that quite refreshing. The historical context was really interesting and added depth to the narrative. Thanks for writing.
