That trial was masterfully written in all aspects. Dobby being accused of line theft as a ploy to get Sirius a trial was genius. You're using well traveled tropes, but you are bringing fresh ideas. I loved your Naruto story, but I'm even more impressed by this so far.

I can't really see Harry choosing to go back in 5th year when he could have had the chance to save Cedric.

Thanks for the great read, really good story so far! I kinda want to see how Harry telling Dumbledore would go.

FINALLY he moves on the most pivotal objective. And it was an exceptional move, Well crafted, and quite believable in what set it off, as well as his leaving vagueries to let Dumbledore's mind fill in the blanks. The fact that there is no case like harry or numerous horcruxes actually protects Harry quite a bit from scrutiny of plausibility. It's to esoteric, to much is unknown or unique about the situation for anyone, even a kind like Dumbledore's, to say it makes no sense he 'saw' the other horcruxes. And it was quite masterful of him to have Dumbledore get an extremely unpleasant crash course in how dangerous these things are, most especially how one could mess with his mind unimpeded by his barriers. Harry's right, for a man of Dumbledore's prodigious skill, and so powerful he hadn't faced a true challenge since Gellert as Voldemort refused to face him in protracted battle, this experience would certainly humble him, remind him he isn't infallible and most importantly, that these vile artifacts will use his own history against him. I doubt severely the Ring would manage to ensnare him now. When he feels those old desires, when he lays eyes on it, he will now be suspicious of the impulse to touch it.
It took way to long to get this ball rolling, but at least it's going now. And with Dumbledore sicked on the case, he'll be quite useful for the legwork, and importantly when it comes to Gringotts, i have to figure having a mind like that assissting in planning to get to the cup will be an enormous boon.

Ok, so he has plural horcruxes in the chamber, which has to be the diadem and locket. I'm pretty surer you only mentioned the diadem when you had him set up the trap in the chamber the first time, but at least now it's clear he has 2 down there. However, he only barely referenced the horcruxes needing to be dealt with, it's still being shunted aside as if it's a future issue that has no chance of being changed, because why else wouldn't he be concerned? Why else is he doint nothing for months to plan or prepare to go after the stone and locket? nagini is obviously last to go for, and it should be stone/ring before cup because going for the cup is what alerted voldemort the first time through. However there is zero excuse for him not going after the damned ring any time, any weekend, and be planning the cup. It can't be worrying about explaining to dumbledore if he learns harry hunted them down, all he has to say is that when the dementer kissed him he had strange moments in time, it was like he lived them. He KNEW where these things were, and he knew they were supposed to keep Voldemort alive. Throw a little more into it and that's covered.
It makes no sense he hasn't gone after the ring or started planning gringotts.

So, Belatrix is loose in a manner that indicates major changes are happening, and it still doesn't cross his mind that the Cup is no longer safe, and could be moved at any time depending on the Goblins. Or even without the Goblins, since Voldemort just proved he can get in and out of impossible places undetected except for what he allows to be detected, and he managed to get in and out of Gringotts when he was still just a parasite. Where the hell is his basic common sense?! Any time travel harry should have two priorities: 1-save as many as possible, 2-take out the horcruxes IMMEDIATLY, or it's inevitable that he'll fail to save people in the long run. Here there's a 3-reconnect with the love of his life. HOWEVER, he can't have Daphne if he fails to take out the freaking horcruxes, so WHY are they not an urgent matter in his head? it's been months, and he's not thinking about it at all! ZERO evidence that he has put as much as five minutes thought into ways to get at the cup. In. MONTHS.

Well, now Harry needs to quite pissing his time away and get the fucking horcruxes. Bellatrix is loose, shit has changed big time. Every alarm in his head should be ringing that he needs to take out the anchors NOW while he still knows where they are. It always bothers me when a character knows about that shit, and strangely doesn't go after all of them ASAP. This harry has no excuses, he's loose, he can get out of the school anytime he wants, he has an untraceable wand. The fact he hasn't dealt with the Ring and Locket feels completly moronic, since i didn't catch him getting it from Kreacher during their chat, nor him storing it in the Chamber, like he did the Tiara. He can go after the Ring any damned time, but strangly hasn't bothered for no apparent reason. The only two he has an excuse for is the Cup and Nagini, but for some reason he has devoted zero effort to planning anything around the Cup. Nagini pretty much has to be on the fly since she's usually either with Voldemort, or wherever the hobo is nesting.
It's patently strange that this Harry has been so lackadaisical with the horcruxes.

If i have one problem with a character so far it's Sirius. Personally I felt the melancholic, more quiet portrayal by Gary Oldman is more in line with a man that has lived what he did. Lost what he did. Been forced to relive all his miseries and loses and guilt for more than a decade in the worst possible way. Him being a plucky jokester of near constant laughs and jests is just plain incongruous to his supposed backstory. I wish people would scale this stuff back severely.

So far I've liked your reasoning on the world build, especially how you've had some tropes but havn't completly overdone it. especially making characters flawed, but not bashing them like is so boring after the 5th, 10th, and 100th evil Dumbledore evil ron rapey Molly and Ginny fics. Your reasoning on the Death Eaters was interesting.

"I'm a drunk, not an alcoholic. Alcoholics seek help."
Sheer beauty. I am greatly appreciating your writing, by the bye, which is far superior to 98% of the garbage on this site (Sturgeon's Law being alive and well). I further like that you're *thinking* about the milieu and how things should play out, not buying into fanon shibboleths, and the like. Keep on keeping on.

I finally found this fic and am now fully caught up. I'd really like to see Harry wrestle with the ethics of how to treat Nott. His anger is still very substantial, but he hasn't yet had a reckoning with the idea of punishing Nott for somethign a different iteration of him did. I really look forward to seeing how he treats that.
