Hmm, your moving too fast. Character development is being stifled for plot points your checking off like their in some kinda list. Also why is Toothless (and yes I’ll still call him Toothless) surprised by there being night furies when we literally just saw a memory of a flock of them? This could have been explained earlier with some CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, but no flash backs. Simple explanations would work just fine. Just….I see potential. I can see it! But your moving faaaaar and away too fast. It feels stilted. How’s this for a twist, instead of having them bond in chapter one, you instead have Toothless try and fail at first contact and instead, be forced to kidnap Hiccup and place them in a secluded area where Hiccup has to depend on Toothless to survive while also not fully trusting him. It would add some depth and allow for character growth on both sides. You can even have them finding Sanctuary be it’s own five chapter adventure as they try to find their way there over the course of several months and include a few characters along the way that will grow the cast list and allow Hiccup and Toothless to grow as characters and show off your world.

To be fair, if the Eragon movie wasn't tied to the books, or if they had called it a loose adaptation of some kind, it would have helped to quell those of us who had a fire lit under our butts.(still, I don't think it was as bad as the Avatar movie. THAT was a dumpster fire, inside of a train wreck.)
I'm not surprised that Hiccup and Toothless have such a strong bond. It would almost be weird otherwise. They were already brothers in all but blood in the trilogy, so having a stronger bond when they can understand each other makes sense.
