I'm not too knowledgeable about The Dark Crystal, but I do enjoy reading the author's other work.
From what I understand the Skeksis are the main antagonists of the franchise and these stories do attempt to "humanize" them in a way. My favorite sections included "Liar", "Adrift" and "Broken Glass".
Very enjoyable read and a very depressing look at how the Skeksis live, catching glimpses of their failing species and perhaps how far they may have fallen from glory.

I'm going to have to work re-watching the movie (seeing it once or twice when I was younger) and the Netflix show (although I know the second season was canceled) into my plans.
