I just read this story and I have to say that I really like it. At times though, I feel like some things are not explained properly like the fake lawyer in the beginning or just what Taylor is truly capable of. I look forward to the next iteration of this story.

I found it unlikely that James Tagg would be there at the hospital. At this point in time, he should have already been a Director in another branch, a Simurph quarantine zone if I remember right.

Hmmm...I supposed the only comment I have here is that this post seem to suffer the same issue as other "godlike being grant X powers", in that it is being a bit too helpful, and no explanation was given as to why. And no question asked as to who the voice is, or why is it helping her.

Some people were simply lazy or incompetent, so the existence of a slum was pretty much inevitable in any large enough city, but slums had a nasty habit of sucking in otherwise productive and hard-working people if the ruler put no effort into quarantining the rot.

Corrupt and/or incompetent authorities who screwed it all up
The shards screw with peoples heads and seek out conflict
On top of trauma the shards give you want you think you want in the worst possible way
Choose the worst of us at our lowest
So there is no using tinker tech to improve society medically or arcology building and farming and the environment because they are there to make things worse

Conflict is apparently more interesting to read about for most people than post bio/cyber solar punk post scarcity still I want to read about it
