Capital. You describe really well, not only the world of Anne with and E, but also the moral standards of the era, and the key dynamics of the inhabitants of Avonlea. I’ve always wondered, in the early days of Anne and Gilbert’s marriage, in relation to Anne’s previous experiences in her early childhood and youth, which the TV series handled well. For in AHonD is given such an idyllic picture, but that may not be the whole truth. At Montgomery, darkness always peeks out from under the light, even in surprising ways, and this is realistic and impressive work.
Looking foward to more.

You dare to tread where Maud never ventured! As discussed many times, she glosses over Anne's past far too quickly and easily for it to be realistic. We know the first eleven years of her life were hard at best and traumatic at worst, and while Anne is clearly naturally resilient, some of that had to have lingered. Since I'm unfamiliar with the Bash character, I'm assuming that, despite the section, you're working not from the book but the TV show, which might go into this to some more detail, but I know we all agree that the books never did.
Trauma can be triggered in the oddest of ways, but since I assume that this Anne, in her past, don't just see "some things", it's no surprise that the wedding night would be a trigger for her. Not that it has to be, but she clearly went into it utterly unprepared and got overwhelmed very quickly, leading to the emotional breakdown we and the other characters are witnessing here. The loss of words for someone as talkative is Anne is a very poignant way to show the bad state she's in emotionally, and despite the social support and the safe haven she has in Green Gables, the path ahead is clearly not an easy one.

I couldn't understand why Matthew was still alive when Anne and Gil were married. Until you mentioned Bash and I realized this was "Anne With An E".

How poignant that Anne, who was always overflowing with words, was bereft by this experience. You did a good job of showing how upset she was by taking away her voice and leaving her to express herself physically instead.
Lovely that Marilla and Matthew are still a safe haven for her (and that Matthew lives).
I also liked that you had Anne catastrophizing a bit at the end there — assuming Gilbert is going to dump her, etc. That's our dramatic girl. Sad in this situation, of course, but hopefully she will be able to learn again that people do love and care about her, and that the reaction you fear isn't always the one you get.

I love this. women are expected to cope with the passages of life with little or no explanation. I can't imagine how frightening and triggering this was fir Anne. I look forward to seeing howvits resolved

OMG! This is such a sad and moving beginning. Poor poor Anne. and, poor confused Gill too, I suppose. But most of my sympathies go with Anne for right now.
Mathew, the one with some insight here. Of course, I love that. Still waters really do run deep, as the saying goes. And Mrs. Allen would be the perfect person to talk with Anne, when she's up to it. Rachel's far too much of a bulldozer, and though Marilla will give her all the love and support possible, Marilla is a spinster.
The ending here was so poignant, too.
