I think this story in itself is a good take on Sweeney Todd surviving the story and facing trial. Although I think tying into Johnny Depp's real-life drama adds another layer to it that I don't really care for. I can't find that Sweeney ever mentions in this story that he was the one who slit Lucy's throat and killed her, so how much truth is he really owning? As much as is sympathetic to him? Enough to let him not feel guilty? Maybe Mrs. Lovett is supposed to represent all the Depp fangirls.
