Wow, I really likes this. I would love to hear Max's reply as well as see a letter from Georg to his old friend, probably the one person he can really be open with.

I can't read German but would love to read this as I see many good reviews for it. I can't copy it into a translator. Is there anywhere you have this posted in English? I am able to copy reviews, so feel free to respond in German!

What a wonderful update! I'm only sorry it took me so long to catch up.
Maria's letter from America, back to Max in Austria, was brilliant. It caught us up to where the family find themselves now, and it also gave a great insight into the struggles of the von Trapps, living as refugees in a foreign, far away land.
The uncertainty, the meagre existence, the lack of opportunity - you described it all so well through Maria's words. It was interesting that Maria asked about Elsa (on behalf of Georg), and either feels inferior to the Baroness, vulnerable by the unresolved nature of Georg/Elsa's relationship, or both. It's unusual to see Maria so unsure of herself.
Such a poignant insight into the world of a refugee. With so much conflict and displacement in the world today (and again in Europe), the picture you paint will be reality this Christmas for millions of families. Beautiful. You really made me stop and think of their plight.

Maria’s letter to Max is touching and sorrowful. I like how you are making your story similar to the real von Trapps. You got into Maria’s head very well, with all the struggles of their new life, adjusting to being poor and powerless. But at least they are free.
It’s poignant how Maria is trying to be strong for the sake of the whole family and they all depend on her. Hopefully it will be cathartic for her to write down all her problems in a letter to Max. Luckily she is a tower of strength and can hold the family together, and give Georg the love and support he needs as he sets the foundations for their new life.
Keep writing. Looking forward to more.

I love how you've captured the von Trapp's voyage across the ocean to America - especially how Maria tries to keep everyone's spirits up despite the long trip and uncertainty. I smiled at Georg wanting to take control of the ship and he hasn't left behind his tendency for moodiness.
It seems the ship is carrying mostly refugees, like the von Trapps, who have left their lives behind in search of peace and freedom in a foreign land. The elderly woman singing a song from Austria with Maria was so poignant. It made me realise what a blessing it is to have the freedom to sing and say whatever you want, whenever you want. How much sadder when you've known that freedom and watched it being stripped away.
Thank you for sharing such a hopeful, heartfelt beginning.

Great start to the story. New beginnings for the family on their journey to America. I like that this fits well with the story of the real von Trapps. How wonderful that Maria is pregnant. I love how you show what a wonderful mother and wife she is to her new family, keeping everyone cheerful and optimistic, even Georg, who is inclined to brood over their new situation.
I also really love how you have captured the importance of singing for the von Trapps - the way singing is used to change moods; to remember the past; to cherish one's culture when in exile; as a way of banishing fear; and also potentially as a source of income for the family in their new life.
I'm excited for more.
