Well, that's an interesting set up. You've ignored a few things in cannon leading up to the "Felix" incident, but hay, it's fanfiction. Your Luna is really a LONG way out of character. In law school my Civil Procedure professor comment would have been "You waived 'whiffle dust' over Luna." That would have meant you ignored the facts that you disagreed with and forged ahead without doing proper research and development of your case. I agree that Ron and Hermione make a very unlikely couple, but Luna and Ron seem just as unlikely according to JKR. Perhaps back a bit and start this divergence from cannon to before we knew much about Luna? Or provide a back story that causes Luna to become less dedicated to obscure and probably fantasy animals without a few more verifiable facts? After this set up I can't imagine a R/H ever working if you are trying to rebuild the R/H relationship. And as I recall, prior to this it was Hermione that had invited Ron to Slughorn's Christmas party which he promptly forgot when Lav-lav happened and Ron's only recorded attempt to invite anyone to the Yuill Ball was to shout the invite at Flur.
