Killerpickle, I'll criticize your criticism.
First of all, not every person's first language is english, which I know you understand very well. Yes its good and all to tell the grammar mistakes but sometimes, it just rolls with the tongue so might as well go with it.
Second, the two boys the Old Man met were Asians, Japanese to be exact, so they need to be respectful to their Elders. As said in the chapter whether they're in America or somewhere else and is not JAPAN.
JiJi, is a more casual but short and respectfu from the whole adjective of Oji-San, which is especially used by some youngsters.
Anyways, author keep up the good work! It's a very intriguing story.

Then as well if he is in an English speaking place and the person he meets at the end is speaking English he shouldn't be saying 'jiji' he should just be saying old man...
