You point out rather well why an intelligent magical does not need employment. And they would tend to stay in the 17th century. They can easily obtain what they need. Farm the land, make shelter, gather gems and gold.

Regarding the author's rant about the calendar muck up of JKR: he's 100% correct
Especially where you can comment on paragraphs any author who mixed up his/her dates/weekdays for a specific year would get at least two dozen comments like "actschually, September 1st 199X was a X-day. Here is the screenshot of the calendar. Do better. What is this? Amateur hour?"

the number of copypasta requests from different aspiring artists who are completely different people and obviously not bots phishing for private information and credit card numbers is frankly hilarious. Glad im not the only one being spammed. All these artists who desperately want to bring a "unique vision" of fanfiction are waaaay overpriced for such a suddenly flooded market. a market of people, totally not bots. nope. no cybermen here. not at all.
