You mention pokemon ability in earlier chapter but forgot to use that on this match. Archeops defeatist should be mentioned in the match. Advance challenge is a rubbish and instead you should use elite match instead because both ash and gym use their main team. Only 6 months roughly remains for Ash to finish the gyms.

There are no strategies in this chapter. It is just ping pong between ash and roxanne. A turn based battles. That is not good for advanced pokemon battle. At advanced stage you need to be fluid, combination attack, add intercept, cancelling, status effect at mass scale, field effects beside one measly snowscape. I thought with advanced stage it would be more complex but it is just turn based fight in fact!

Ash: Lapras use protect
Ash: Attack now
Roxanne: Cancel with attack
Wth is this! These are all basic! Anyone can do this as long as they memorize TM!
Here try to read this fic: Catching a conquering landscape by Exceeds. Especially page 29 in Johto chapter 27. Its first gym fight scene are incredible for amateur author. Truly a talented for 200~ follower. It might help you to adding these complex battles that you desperately need.
