for Obsession: Cuts like a Knife

This chapter is absolutely devastating, and even though I assumed this would happen based on your author's notes, I was surprised by how quickly things escalated. Although based on Rip's almost immediate obsession with Jess, it didn't feel unbelievable or hurried.

I appreciate your author's notes, by the way. I always like to hear about the writer's intentions and your notes aren't at all intrusive. I also agree wholeheartedly that rape is used much too often and too lightly in fanfiction as a whole, especially to bring the victim closer to a 'protector'-type, which is an awful way to romanticize a vile and disgusting act.

I'm getting off track...

Anyway, I just wanted to say that this is one of those rare stories that is completely engaging right from the beginning and I'm not quite sure what to do with myself now that I've caught up with your updates. I'm very curious what the original and the revised copy looked, but as for this re-revised version, all I can sat is congratulations. You are extremely talented, and your hard work is on display. Now I'm off to read anything and everything else you've posted here, but not before I beg you to please update soon and often.

You have an interesting story so far. I'm curious to see what is going to happen next. I do admit I was a little disappointed when I didn't see any of the characters from the movie. But by the third chapter I've gotten to really like your OCs. Update soon please.

Hello,

So I went through and read the original series before starting this one; I guess, I wanted to see the difference in writing because it was something that you mentioned in the first chapter of this story. This is spectacular! You've grown a lot as a writer and I really like the direction you're going with this. I, personally, think it is a better set up into the original story or whatever way you chose to go with it from here.

Keep it up! I look forward to reading more )

So I just recently became infatuated (see: head over heels in love) with Newsies, and this was the first fic I saw on a Newsies blog I just recently followed and I'm already hooked. If there were more than two chapters posted when I found this, I can assure you I would have been up until ungodly hours of the morning reading this.

I like Jess a lot already. I don't know how I feel about Spindle and I already love Rip. I love his character, but I know I'm going to hate him at the same time.

I'm super excited to continue reading!

Two straight weeks of O:CLAK!

The descriptions of Trace Flannery were amazing. I thought you created great depth to both him and Rip by including the darker side of the time period with the opium dens, and the pride of immigrants and natives.

I *loved* the scene with Stress, Gypsy, and Pockets. When Gypsy gives her the powder and tells her that they've all needed help - I thought that was such a wonderful gesture. It seems Gypsy and the others understand more than they've let Stress realize, and I hope that they, along with Jack(!), will help her heal.

And speaking of Jack. You have to know how much I loved that last bit with him and Stress. I'm looking forward to more from this pair. Next, please. :)

Whoo, new chapter of O:CLAK! I will happily take the blame for this update. ;)

Wow, I can't believe this rewrite began four years ago - it's crazy how fast time seems to fly. There's something so special about this story to me. It just brings me back to the first days of when I became a Newsies fan, when you were putting out new chapters of the original "Cuts Like a Knife."

Back to the present now: I just love how you wrote Stress' first day at Bottle Alley. It's perfect and natural, capturing the awkwardness of being the new girl in a new place, getting to know the girls of the bunkroom slowly (yay, my character too!), and balancing that with what she had to leave behind in Far Rockaway. I also thought it was a realistic touch for Stress to acknowledge how, no matter how hard she could try, she would never be able to forget Rip.

And speaking of Rip: what a way to reinforce how formidable of an opponent he is. I love the way you write him, and this time we got to see how he's still remembered in Harlem.

Some of the next chapter is finished? Hurrah! Though, I'm sad to hear that it's complicated with "Five." Every weekend I'm looking in my inbox and thinking, "Where's 'Five'?" ;)

Hmm, I really liked this chapter. I liked Stress's part of it, because I like the kind of connection thing going on between her and Jack. By the way, you may have mentioned this in the story, but I can't remember; are Jack and Stress about the same age? Just out of curiosity. Really great chapter, and I hope you'll update soon.

Heheh, poor confused Stress. A madhouse! How fun! I'll tell you what's not fun, though, and it's called Rip in Manhattan. Go back to Far Rockaway, darn you.

I love Jack. I said that a million times, but I really do. I love how he calls Mrs. Cook "Cookie." I love how he says newsies have to stick together. I love how he spots Stress a nickel and how he gets embarrassed. He is a cute little kid! Pockets sounds like another adorable character, with her big coat and all. And look, it's Peg! :)

Many thanks to Irish for not blabbering! But I'm guessing sooner or later this secret will come out - I just hope Ace and Irish don't get hurt because of it.

Good job as always. You know that you can use Rae whenever you need to. ;-)

Geez, how behind was I? Two new chapters of O:CLAK for me!

I love your Jack. He is just, so incredibly adorable, I want to pinch his cheeks. Loved when he proudly announced how he gave Stress her nickname. And speaking of, yay, the birth of Stress! She is finally at Bottle Alley!

Gah, Spindle. I'm not looking forward to the unraveling that's bound to happen. But I'm still looking forward to the Jack vs. Rip showdown!

And there's Stress. :) I like how that came about. It makes me kind of sad how Jessa automatically assumes that all men are like Rip...it makes me sad to see how she sees that with Jack. When really, Jack is just good. Well, anyway, I see that I'm getting closer to where you left off, so I suppose you'll have to updating soon. :) Good chapter.
