Might I suggest you do a spell check on your work. It makes it more readable and thus more entertaining.
You might also put a story down and let it sit a while before rereading and posting it. It's easier to work out flaws that way. Otherwise, get a beta reader.
The only way you get better at writing is by doing it.

This is a little weird, but hey, chocolate cookies for trying. You might want to be consistent with your tenses, though; switching between simple past and present is somewhat annoying to read.
