Nice.
I like how it fits in well with the story, and how you're giving each chapter names alike to those in the Manga. But, however I don't quite understand why Ryuzaki would give up his position so soon, but it's your story. Nice. I'd rate... 8/10. :)

This is off to a very intriguing start. I'll confess I interpreted Near's feelings towards Mello differently in canon (warmer), but as private a person as Near is, and as many ways as you can take the things he says, I can't know whether I read him right or not. Which really is the beauty of Near.
Will it be explained later why L chose Near, a boy he's never met, as his successor? I know from what's been translated in How To Read 13 he apparently considered Mello a confidant and even met him at least once. I'm rather curious to hear L's explanation of why he chose Near, even though I can imagine many reasons, and whether he has any plans for Mello.
I look forward to future chapters!
